SPIEKER, Eugen ""Gene"" Ludwig Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital on Monday, May 28, 2018 at the age of 84. Survived by his wife, Henriette (nee Dierkes), his son Ted Spieker (Laurie), his daughter Marian Spieker (Mike Carter), and his grandchildren, Jess Spieker, Audrey Spieker, and Carman Spieker-Carter. Dear brother of Fritz and Annette. Predeceased by his parents Franz Friederich Spieker and Aenne Maria Klara Spieker (nee Schepers) and his brother Franz-Joseph Spieker. Eugen (Gene) Spieker immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1954. Joining his brother Franz, he worked on a tobacco farm for one year. Gene was a fully trained Journeyman Electrician at the age of 17. He next found work in his profession in Canada and wired new housing in Elliot Lake from 1957 to 1958. Gene returned to Germany to find a nice girl, and he did. Henriette and Gene were engaged in Germany, then returned to Canada to be married in St. Mary's Church. They celebrated their 59th anniversary on April 4, 2018. Gene worked for Fritz Electric from 1961, and purchased this business in 1972 from Emil Fritz, the original owner. Ted and Laurie continue to operate Fritz Electric.
