Gerda Harmine Schummer

Passed away peacefully at Freeport Hospital on May 9, 2023. Mom was a strong presence everywhere and was always proud to share that she celebrated her 95th birthday in February, 2023. Lovingly remembered by her children Harold (Jean) and Rick (Sandra). Proud Oma to Klaus (Sherry), James (Donna), Harry (Katherine), Nicole (Court), Dan (Amanda) and Mike (Emma). Honoured to be Uhr Oma of many and she was thrilled to have a great-great-granddaughter. Dear sister of Else and Johann Henkel and sister-in-law of Eka Dannemann. She is predeceased by her husband Nikolaus, son Klaus, daughter-in-law MaryJane and siblings Enno, Theodore, Heinrich and Hilda. Beechwood Manor is where Mom lived for the last nine years. She made many friends during her residency there. Special thanks to the staff for their care and support during that time. Gerda's family will receive relatives and friends from 12:00 - 12:45 p.m. with the funeral at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2023, at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A light reception will follow the service. Interment at Parkview Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to a Charity of Your Choice would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).
