Gregory Giesen Obituary

August 14, 1969 - January 13, 2022

Greg Giesen of Dorchester, passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospital, London, on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at the age of 52. Husband of Lisa (Emslie) Giesen. Father of Emma Giesen and Samuel Giesen. Son of Helen Tibben (late Hank) of Illderton and Tony Giesen (MaryAnn) of Drayton. Brother of Susanne and Alan O'Connor of Kitchener, Deborah and Jim Kaminski of Fergus, and Ray Giesen of London. Brother-in-law of Geff Emslie of Palmerston, Charlotte and Bob Morton of Burlington, and Tom and Karen Emslie of Red Dear, AB. Uncle and Great Uncle to Ian and Renelle O'Connor, Scott O'Connor, Kaden O'Connor, Kathryn and Cody Holmes and baby Sutton, Connor and Nicola Kaminski, Kiera and Danie Oosthuizen, Sean and Christina Morton and Jacob, Emily and baby Trace Morton, Cody and Shelby Emslie, Jaryn and Jace Emslie. Predeceased by Lisa's parents Kenneth and Emily Emslie, nephew Jaxon Emslie, niece Lindsay Morton, and by his sister-in-law Janice Emslie. Greg didn't live his life like he had cancer. In fact, he only ever brought it up if it was prudent to do so. He never wanted anyone's pity. He wanted to live life on his own terms. Once he processed the diagnosis he received 12 years ago, he vowed that if his journey could help ease someone suffering with this disease, then that was a worthy undertaking. Greg poured everything he had into his career at Delta Elevator as their New Construction Salesperson in Kitchener and just last year, as the Branch Manager of the London office. Golf, curling, ball hockey and watching hockey and football were Greg's extracurricular passions in life. These pursuits provided Greg with some of his closest friends. Greg's pride and joy was his family and he was so proud of his two kids, Emma and Sam. Everything he did, he did for us to make sure we would be ok. He has left an indelible legacy to everyone who knew him. Special thanks to Dr. Stacy Hubay and Dr. David Laidley, Margo, Moira and Penny for providing home nursing care for Greg all these years and finally to the London Health Sciences Centre Palliative Care team for looking after Greg in his final days. A private family funeral service will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston, on Sunday, January 16, 2022. Spring interment in Palmerston Cemetery. A public celebration of Greg's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Ray of Hope in Kitchener would be appreciated.
