Ian TAYLOR Obituary

It is with overwhelming sadness and regret that we announce the passing of Ian Graham Taylor. Beloved son, father and friend to many; he will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

An extraordinarily talented, dedicated, and inspiring blues musician, he was well known for his performances at the Kitchener Blues Festival and every bar, pub, and venue that wished to spread the joy and funk of the blues.

Ian is survived by his parents Heather and Danny, his brother Jason, his son Kaeden, his daughter Kaia, and his dog and best friend Brownie.

Ian was an employee of the University of Waterloo for over 20 years, working there until his passing. Ian was an integral part of the culture and spirit on campus, having written songs for university use, and often performing live music for events on campus. Ian's last position at the university was with Central Stores, a job he was known to love doing and one where his presence was always valued.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Sunday March 26, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. to honour this great man, his life, and the uncountable lives he touched.

It is so hard to find the right words to express my heartfelt compassion for Ian´s family and my own grief. Seeing him perform over the years back with Mel and Miss Angel, on his own in bars and most recently hosting an open-mike at the Legion on Gage St where with his big kind smile, he always so sincerely encouraged and accompanied others who had the courage to step up on stage with he and his friends. With all of his years of experience, immense talent and professionalism, Ian was still so humble, approachable and appreciative of his fellow musicians and his audience and always took the time to chat and welcome those of us he knew, and any newcomers to these intimate gigs. I remember our lighthearted Facebook conversations and cherish the recording of one of his own songs that he sent me by messenger just before Christmas last year. What a loss. Ian Tylor was a such a gift to our community professional, socially and personally. Rest in peace my friend.

I had the pleasure of knowing and watching Ian Perform many times over the years whilst over on vacation. From the many bars in KW to the summer patio nights up in Elora, treasured memories. A supremely talented musician and just a great all round guy that has left us far too soon. My condolences to your family you will be sorely missed.
Rest in peace Ian and go well.
From all your friends in England.
