James Meyer Obituary

August 13, 1942 - October 31, 2022

James (Jim) Paul Meyer passed away peacefully after a brief illness at St. Mary's General Hospital. Jim was born in St. Clements, Ontario, August 13, 1942. He resided at Morningside Retirement Community, New Hamburg, Ontario. He was the son of the late Leo Meyer (passed in 1944), Margaret (Koebel) Tiede (passed in 2001), and stepfather Oscar Tiede (passed in 1993). He was also predeceased by brother Joe Meyer (passed in 2013), and brothers-in-law Jim Smith (passed in 2014), Grant Bell (passed in 2005), and Roger Bechthold (passed in 2019). Beloved husband of Louyse (Bell) Meyer whom he married on June 4, 1966. Loving father of Sean Meyer (and Heather Meinert) and granddaughter Michelle, and Todd Meyer (and Natalie Meyer) and grandsons James and Nicholas. Jim will be remembered by his sisters Carole (and John Frost), Bev (and Mike Meyer), and Gwen Jackson. He will also be remembered by sisters-in-law Marguerite Smith, Dorothy (and Dale Mitchell), and Linda Bechthold. Jim will be remembered by many nieces and nephews. Jim worked for many years in the automotive industry, having been employed as service manager at various outlet in the Kitchener area. Also was employed at The Wright Limousine Service. Jim will be remembered by many for his years of coaching in Kitchener Minor Hockey and the Chaparral hockey team, from St. Clements. He also spent several years coaching girls' softball in the Bridgeport area. A celebration of life will be held at the Morningside Village Centre on Saturday, November 26, 2022, from 2-5 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to SickKids: The Hospital for Sick Children or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 532 New Hamburg, by contacting Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg, 519-662-1661. Jim Meyer was a cheerful, friendly and frequent visitor to the Concordia Club Campground in New Hamburg. Jim will be greatly missed and long remembered by his friend Pius Walsh, by campers Alan and Vicki Nanders, and by many other Concordia Club campers, whose days were brightened whenever Jim visited.
