James Walter "Jim" Patterson, 89, of Tavistock passed away suddenly and peacefully at Kingsway Lodge, St Marys on Monday, May 23, 2022. He was born in New Liskeard on April 3, 1933 a son of the late John Sanderson Patterson and the former Nora Merle Foley.
Jim worked at Dominion Tire, Uniroyal, Uniroyal/Goodrich which became Michelin in Kitchener as well he had owned and operated a septic tank cleaning business in Tavistock. Jim was an active member of Grace United Church in Tavistock where he held several positions. Jim was also a member of Tavistock Branch #518 Royal Canadian Legion.
He married Doreen Marie Ruby in Tavistock on December 10, 1955. She predeceased him November 27, 2019. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Tracy Bender on December 25, 2010, his son, Michael Patterson on December 20, 2018.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Long; his son-in-law, Paul Bender and Deb Bell; six grandchildren, Tara Porter, Matthew Bender, Christopher Long, Cassandra Long, Holly Seok and Carin Long; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Patterson and Robert Patterson. Also remembered and loved by members of Doreen's family and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Jim was predeceased by his sisters-in-law, Mary Patterson and Marlene Patterson.
A "Celebration of Life" service for Jim will be held at Grace United Church in Tavistock on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Gail Fricker will officiate. A reception will follow. A private family interment will be in McTavish Cemetery. Donations to the
