Janet
You are missed.

I knew Janet for over 50 years. I am told (and frankly admit) I have a poor memory, and it has not gotten better with age. And I am not much of a writer. But here is what I am able to remember of Janet.
I remember that Janet liked her eggs sunnyside up. I remember that she loved her coffee in the morning. I remember that Janet preferred diet seven up or diet sprite, not diet cola. I remember that she liked slightly soggy french fries with ketchup. I remember that she liked bloody Caesars. I remember that she liked dining at Ali Baba´s. As I do, she also had the wanderlust. I remember how the thought of a travel experience would bring a twinkle to her eyes.
Here is what I remember of how she came to be in my life.
I remember traveling through Europe in 1972 with a high school friend (Bob P.) at age 19. When we met, Janet was dressed in a very pretty blue sundress with long brown hair. I remember that her smile radiated a certain joie de vivre.
I remember, that Bob P. dared me - in a high schoolish fashion - to walk across and speak with Janet. I will always be grateful for Bob´s adolescent behavior. Otherwise we would never have met.
I remember returning home to Westwood, MA and calling Edith long distance to let her know that Janet was ok. I remember driving up to Kitchener to meet Janet and her family a few weeks later.
I remember Janet entering the Hamilton School of Nursing on Barton Street in Hamilton. From payphones near my dorm room in Massachusetts, we talked long distance on her dormitory payphone every few days for her entire time there.
I remember sending her flowers when she started to work at Kitchener City Hall. Then again when she worked at Harmon Automotive. I remember how she often mentioned her friend Sharon at Kitchener Waterloo Ironworks.
I remember returning to spend time at Niagara on the Lake, where she introduced me to those bloody Caesars after an evening performance of Shakespeare.
I remember visiting in July 1974, her apartment on Overlea that had no A/C during one of the Kitchener´s hottest heat spells on record. I remember going next door to a Hamburger Place (Sonny´s?) for the aforementioned slightly soggy french fries with ketchup.
I remember returning later in October of 1975. Her brother Bob and Kathy doubled dated with us to see the movie Mahogany.
I remember her trip through South America. Thanks to Edith´s information, Janet would receive flowers when she arrived at each new hotel.
I remember her moving to Australia.
I remember traveling alone and boarding the cruise ship Marco Polo in Rio in Decmber 2006 and a day or two later seeing her on the sundeck.
Years later, when she returned from Australia, I remember in the late 2000´s when she and Bob visited me in Dallas and Gladewater, Texas a few times.
I remember sitting with Janet on the deck of the lakehouse. The peace and quiet of the lake was comforting to her. We talked and listened. She was always a patient listener and good sounding board. Her compassion and caring for others was inspiring. She was particularly fond of her nephew Adam and spoke of him often.
I remember the serenity and solitude of her months long visit to my cottage on Narraganset Bay in 2007. She loved looking out at the waves and water.
Sadly, since I had not heard from her in such a very long time, in a random moment on the evening of February 23, 2023, I searched her name in the Kitchener Obits and found nothing. Then, the next morning while I was sitting in a waiting room, I received the phone call. Before I answered, I knew what the unknown call was going to be.
Janet, thank you for being a part of my life. You will be missed.

A name from the past, Janet Kasper, gone too soon.
I went to grade school with Janet. She was fun, funny, smart and I remember her cute face and big eyes.
You never know where or what some people in your childhood go or do with their life. It looks like Janet conquered the world in her own fashion.

I remember Janet from Grade 7/8 and high school. She was always smiling and laughing. She hasn't changed much since school days. Sounds like she had a short yet wonderful life. She was one of those bright lights you don't forget.

Our condolences to Janet's family. I grew up with Janet and we were best friends. She invited me to Sauble Beach with her and her family. We had fun at the dances and had many laughs together. I am sure she will be greatly missed.
