John Bieth Obituary

Formerly of Kitchener and Southampton Ontario, passed away of COVID-19 related complications on Friday, December 18, 2020. He was 77. Born on June 23, 1943, John was the son of the late Jack and Frances (Shepherd) Bieth. Predeceased by his beloved wife Anne, who has been watching over him and waiting to welcome him to their eternal home. John is survived by his daughter Julie Bieth (Richard Kenney) of Mississauga, and his son Mike Bieth of Calgary. He was a proud grandfather to Mike's boys Jack and Ayden Bieth. John grew up in Kitchener and turned his passion for cars into a career in the automotive industry, with progressive jobs as a mechanic at Orr Automotive, Service Manager at Canadian Tire, as a small business owner, and then as a Fleet Manager at Schlueter Chev Olds. John and his wife Anne followed their retirement dream and bought a home on the Saugeen River in Southampton, where they were welcomed to their new community by many new friends, especially from the Legion. John's passions included family, hockey, fishing and dogs. John created a backyard ice rink when his children were young and the neighbourhood came to play shinny. Countless hours were spent cheering while his son Mike played rep hockey. Recently, he would proudly show staff and residents his grandson's hockey pictures. As a result of an accidental meeting on a plane, John co-created the Bieth-Pelland Friendship Hockey Exchange - a celebration of youth and friendship between Lancaster Pennsylvania and Kitchener Ontario that lasted over 40 years. John loved the Saugeen River and Lake Huron and spent many hours fishing with friends and his daughter Julie in their boat "Dad's Girl", and volunteering during the annual Chantry Chinook Classic. John loved dogs, from his first dog Trixie that he won at the fair as a child, to his last dog Denny, who was named after a fishing spot on the Saugeen River. Mike and I would like to thank the many family and friends that have brought Dad joy and comfort over the years, especially since Mum passed. We are grateful for the excellent care that Dad received at Hampton Court in Southampton and Extendicare Halton Hills. John would want his life to be celebrated with the sharing of stories, food and beverages. In order to protect family and friends and keep everyone safe from COVID-19, cremation has occurred, with a celebration of John's life when we can come together as a community. Memorial donations in John's name can be made to the Calgary Humane Society, Oakville-Milton Humane Society or the Salvation Army. Mr. Bieth as he will always be know by me was a wonderful man. I grew up with Julie and Michael. I was one for those lucky kids that got to play on the ice rink he made. My two fondest memories of him was him letting me try a skateboard and watch the movie Grease even though he knew my parents wouldn’t let me. He always looked out for all the kids on the street and we loved hanging out at their house.

So sorry about your loss Julie and Mike. I know you and your families will miss him as will everyone else whose life he touched.

I am sorry to hear of John's passing, I moved away from Kitchener about 50 years ago and lost touch with him a long time ago. I doubt that John would even remember me, but I remember him. I lived in the east end of Kitchener but travelled up town and met John at the old YMCA, struck a friendship, played pool on the huge billiard table, and partnered up in a table tennis tournament with him He got me onto a bowling team at the old King Bowl, our team was the King Bowl Pirates, even got shirts with our name on it, two others that I remember on the team were Ken Zuber and Wayne McGlauglin John was also an usher at the old Fox Theatre on King Street. many a Friday or Saturday night, after the national anthem played, he would help shut things down. Why do I remember these things, I don't know but I guess you remember people that are good to you, and that he was to me.
