John left his family farm in Merrickville, Ontario at 17 years of age in 1942. John began his insurance career, February 1, 1951, and later became a director on the local Life Underwriters' Association (CAIFA) board. He served as a director of the Insurance Brokers Association of Waterloo Region. John obtained his Chartered Life Underwriters' designation (CLU) 1965, and in 1969 John started his general insurance agency in Waterloo, John B. Donovan Insurance Brokers Inc. I'm so sorry for your loss. I was a Care Aid (PSW) for Kay many years ago and got to know Mr. Donovan during that time. He was such a kind caring man.
My heart goes out to all of you.

John was one of the friendliest most sincere gentleman that one could ever cross paths with! I first got to know John when he was Grand Knight for 1504 council and later when I was on the Waterloo Roman Catholic School Board along with his wife Kay. John was always gregarious and very sports minded, and very devoted to Kay and their family of whom he was very proud. He liked to joke about the Ottawa Valley, while always exhibiting interest in you and yours. John was a true gentleman who made an impression on a lot of people. To the family sorry for your loss! Treasure the Memories.

I knew John initially when he was Grand Knight and more especially when I got involved with the Waterloo Region Roman Catholic School Board along with John's wife Kay. John was the friendliest most sincere gentleman one could be associated with, it did not matter when or where. John was always involved and shared his talents among many organizations. To the family we extend our sincere wishes for you to follow your Fathers example, and extend our sincere sympathy for our loss.
