John HEIBEIN Obituary

Passed away after a brief illness on December 3, 2022 in Hamilton, ON at the age of 69. John was the beloved husband of 37 years to Frieda Heibein (nee Lebeer) and was a dedicated and gentle father to Emily (Seamus) Coyne (nee Heibein). John was a wonderful grandpa to his darling Ella, of whom he was so proud. John is survived by his brother and sister Hugh Heibein (Jacky Crawford) and Anne (David) Olsen. John was predeceased by his parents Howard and Audrey Heibein and his great-niece Hallie Romans. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews, in-laws, extended family and his furry friend, Baxter. John was a kind spirit, gentle soul and a kid at heart. He graduated from both Eastwood Collegiate and the University of Waterloo. John loved his job as an Education Assistant at KCI where he spent many years impacting the students and the staff around him. John was a devoted sportsman. He was an all-Ontario athlete, competing in many sports, including track, hockey and of course, golf. He was an avid golfer and will be remembered for his sportsmanship and humour on the fairways as well as his many championship successes. John was a proud member of Rebel Creek Golf Club where he loved playing with his buddies, especially Lee and Mike Boutette and his wife Frieda. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of John's life will be planned in the spring when family and friends can gather in golfing weather. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region or the Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home). Arrangements entrusted to Henry Walser Funeral Home (519-749-8467). Visit www.henrywalser.com for John's memorial.

I think anyone who went to ECI in the late 60´s and early 70´s fondly remembers John Heibein.
I had the good fortune to know John through football and track at ECI. He was the really good halfback,,, I was ,,, well,, the other not so good one!
He was a very good football player on what was a very mediocre team. It didn´t matter to him that most of the rest of us were a reasonably motley crew. He always played hard, but I often saw him help up someone he had just knocked down and give them a friendly pat on the back!
High school was a long time ago and I haven´t seen John in over 50 years. That doesn´t mean my fond memories of him are less,,, or that he won´t be missed.
God speed John Heibein.

Pasquale and I were so sorry to hear of John's passing. We have missed seeing him at the course. My favorite John memory - I was having trouble getting across the trouble on old 17 and he could see I was frustrated. He said to me very quietly "you know, a lot of the ladies have trouble with this hole".
