1952 - 2022
We are very saddened to announce the passing of John Henry Wassing, in the early morning of October 18, 2022. He was with us for 70 years. Born near Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1952, a year later the family moved to the Waterloo region where John spent his entire life.
John is survived by his beloved partner Rehema Mapendo and her family. He is also survived by his daughter Laura Gingrich (Jason), son Robert Wassing (Melissa), and three siblings, Joanne Euler (Karl), Arnold Wassing (Rita), and Margaret Wassing (Chris). Also sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, and grand-children.
John retired from J.M. Schneider Meats after approximately 35 years of service. Upon retirement he drove school bus for a number of years as a hobby, and fully enjoyed his time with the little ones.
He truly loved playing golf, and could frequently be found in, and even winning, snooker tournaments throughout southern Ontario. An avid gardener, he also enjoyed spending time on his computer, thoroughly researching many topics that piqued his interest. He spent many happy hours on his front porch with a good book.
John passed away at home after a brief illness. Cremation has been performed. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 29, at Trillium Lutheran Church, 22 Willow St., Waterloo, rear entrance, 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friends welcome.
