Madeliene WIDMEYER Obituary

Passed away peacefully at Innisfree House Hospice on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the age of 74. Madeliene is survived by her husband Terry Pitcher, stepchildren Jeff (Amy) and Dave, grandchildren Alex and Ashlyn, brothers, Don (Bernadette), Tim (Pat), Richard (Emilia), Rob (Sue), and Mike (Brenda), sisters-in-law Donna Baldwin and Linda Pitcher, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Dave and Marie Widmeyer, her sisters-in-law Jackie Widmeyer (nee Lorentz) and Mary Widmeyer (nee Weber), brother-in-law Douglas Pitcher, and daughter-in-law Susan Pitcher (nee Morimoto). Madeliene grew up on a farm near Ayton with her parents and five brothers. Following in her mother's footsteps, she attended Stratford Teachers College. After teaching for two years, Maddie transitioned to working for the Waterloo Regional District School Board, where she worked for 36 years in administrative assistant roles. Following her retirement from the School Board, she worked as the Executive Assistant to the Waterloo Regional Police Services Board, a position she held for 11 years. Madeliene was a true professional, with an unmatched work ethic. Her advice was valued by everyone who worked with her. Madeliene lived life to the fullest with her bubbly spirit, her wonderful smile and laugh, and, not to be forgotten, her polished fashion sense. She maintained many professional and personal friendships, a part of her life she enjoyed and cherished right to the end. Madeliene's many hobbies included owning standard-bred racehorses (shared with her father), gardening, attending live theatre and seeing movies with Terry. An avid Blue Jays fan, Maddie was a frequent attender of home openers. All are welcome to attend the visitation from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Monday, April 24 at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener. The service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with a reception afterwards. The family would like to thank the staff at Grand River Hospital and Innisfree House Hospice for their compassionate comprehensive care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lisaard & Innisfree Hospice, or the Mennonite Central Committee.

All of us cousins got together often when we were growing up. Our parents were all good friends with the same euchre fetish they passed on to my generation. Madeliene was always very sweet with me, one of the younger of the cousins, showing that beautiful smile at all times. My heart is broken today, and another angel watches over all of us.

I taught with Madeliene many years ago but her quick laughter, intellect and compassion were unforgettable. I wish her family blessings, peace and light as they move on without her shining light.

Madeliene and Terry are friends of my parents.

Maddie had an infectious smile, and was such a genuine person. My children got to know them both, and my daughter in particular would get so excited when she heard that they were visiting my parents and she was going to see them.

It was an honour to have met Maddie and considered her a friend. My sincerest condolences to all of her family and friends. Maddie will be missed greatly but never forgotten.

I was shocked this afternoon when I learnt of Madeleine´s passing. Our sincere sympathy to the family. I believe the last time I spoke to Madeleine was at a performance at the St. Jacob´s Playhouse and we had a great chat. RIP Madeleine.

This sad news reaches me in Victoria BC. I had the immense pleasure of working with Madeliene when I was at the crime prevention council. We shared a passion for team work and also canoe trips. Madeliene was without fail responsive and collegial and trustworthy. Just a gem to know. I am deeply sorry for this loss to her family and friends and the community. My thoughts are with you. I consider myself fortunate to have crossed her path. Christiane

Like John Stevens , I only was in Maddie's company a few times, once at Johns and once at Terry and Maddies condo. Right away I knew this was a gal I wanted to get to know. I live in Winnipeg and; well visits were going to be rare but Maddie was a fun, an interesting person full of laughter and grace and will be missed by those who loved her and knew her well. Rest Maddie and 'thankyou'.

Knew Maddie for such a relatively short time and only wish I had known her for many more years. Such a positive and bubbly spirit that was so infectious! She will be missed sorrily by all those who were blessed to have known her. My sincerest condolences to all those whose lives she had a part in.
