November 12, 1937 - March 6, 2022
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother and wife, Margaret Lang Hack, on March 6, 2022, at Toronto General Hospital at the age of 84. Born to John McPherson and Isabella Mulvey McPherson (Day) in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1937. Margaret's determination and strength of character brought her to cross the seas to Canada at the age of 18, overcoming a challenging childhood. Margaret first settled in Toronto, where she worked at a bank but soon traveled across the country to Vancouver, where she met her husband, Gerhard Frederick Hack. They were married on April 27, 1963, in Vancouver. Margaret and Gerhard began their life together in Newport News, Virginia, where they cleared a piece of land and built a house, as well as all the furniture while starting their family at the same time. Margaret also brought her mother over from Scotland to live with her and her family. Daughters Fiona and Karen were born in Newport News and their son, Cameron, was born in Kitchener, Ontario after Margaret and Gerhard decided to move back to Canada to create new opportunities for their family. Margaret dedicated many years of service to the Kitchener Public Library, where she brought her enthusiasm and love for children and books daily until she retired. She loved to learn and enjoyed many forms of art, including making stained glass, pottery, and macrame to name a few, and shared a passion for tennis, ballroom dancing, camping, and gardening with her husband and her children. Margaret leaves behind her beloved husband Gerhard, her children Fiona, Karen (Lance), and Cameron (Samantha) and was the devoted Granny to Julia, Keenan, Jacob, Ahsha, and Declan. Margaret was a dear sister to Laura, Sheila, and John (deceased), and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. We love you, Margaret. You will forever be in our hearts. We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Toronto General Hospital and Belmont House for their exceptional care of Margaret. Margaret's family will receive relatives and friends from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St. Kitchener, (519) 749-8467.
