Born July 18, 1919 in Nagyszekely Hungary, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2022 in her home at Riverbend Place in Cambridge. At 103, she was one of the last of a great generation. With faith and perseverance, she survived the Great Depression, World War II and five years in a Russian Labour Camp before finally reuniting with her son and parents in Galt in 1951. Shortly after arriving in Canada, she began working at Newlands Textiles where she worked until the plant closed in the 1970s. Church was an important part of her life and Margaret was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she participated in 49ers, the quilting group and the altar guild for many years. Her summer days were spent tending her oversize garden and canning and preserving the fruits of her labour. Family was Margaret's greatest pleasure and she longed to have everyone together to enjoy her cooking and baking. She is survived by her son Philip, her grandsons Richard (Lori) and Eric (Micheline), great-grandchildren Emily, Benjamin, Danielle and Luke (Monica), great-great-grandson Levi, and her niece Erzsebet and her family in Hungary. Margaret is predeceased by her parents John and Margaret Neidert, her sister Erzsebet, her daughter-in-law Betty and Betty's parents John and Elizabeth Knoch, as well as all her many aunts, uncles and cousins in Hungary and the USA. She will be fondly remembered by good friends and frequent visitors John and Sharon Hall, and Gabi Federau. Margaret and her family are thankful for the outstanding care and friendship that she received from the staff and care team at Riverbend Place who were like her extended family for the past 11 years.
Margaret's funeral will take place at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will take place, at the church, one hour before the funeral. A light reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the Canadian Red Cross - Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal would be appreciated by the family.
