Passed away peacefully at her residence, in Lindsay, on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at the age of 86. Loving and devoted wife of Manuel Ramos Carvalho Vitorino. Cherished mother of Angela Vitorino, Beatrize Vitorino, and Fernando Vitorino and his wife Diana. Cherished grandmother of Daniel and Katherine. Maria will also be sadly missed by her siblings Sister Helena Sabina, Joao, Manuel, Filomena (Antonio), and sisters-in-law Teresinha and Natalia, as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Predeceased by her parents Antonio and Maria Bairos, and siblings Angelina, Jose, Antonio, Agostinho and infant Jose Maria. Born in Santa Maria Azores, Portugal, on June 13, 1935. Maria and Manuel immigrated to Canada in 1970, where they raised their family and developed enduring relationships with the community. Maria lived a life dedicated to her Catholic faith with her compassion for others leading to a profession as a nurse (first in Lisbon Portugal, then in Cambridge and Kitchener, Ontario, caring for elderly and special needs people), member of the Legion of Mary (and founder of the Portuguese Praesidium), the Catholic Women's League, bible study, and the Thyroid Foundation. Resting at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, where the family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, from 5 to 7:40 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 7:40 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 11 Traynor Avenue, Kitchener, on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery. Those wishing to attend Maria's visitation and service must RSVP through the funeral home website or by calling 519-749-8467. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the nurses, PSWs and doctors for their loving care and support these last years.
