Murray Donald Ewing (80) passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife, Kae Ewing, and family in the Hamilton General Hospital in the early evening of March 25th, 2023. As he was always known to do, even in his final moments Murray was able to share stories, advice, and words of love with his family. This brought Kae and her family immense comfort during a very difficult time. His caregivers at both Cambridge Memorial and Hamilton General Hospitals included amazing nurses, support workers, doctors and surgeons and his family always felt that he was receiving the absolute best care possible — especially from Dr. Arjun Sharma, whom Murray would have admired deeply. Murray is survived by his loving wife Kae and his three children, Nate (Norma), Kristen (Chris), Tim (Jen). He is also survived by his Grandkids: Mackenzie (Gina), Maddy (Zach), Lexi (Chris), Adam, Braedon, Callaghan, and Lyra. Additionally, his Ewing siblings, Shirley, and Carol (Don), and their families and his brother and sister in-law, Barb and Brian Chinnick, and their family. He is predeceased by his two sisters, Geraldine, and Donna, and two brothers, Francis ("Bud") and Richard. Murray grew up on his family farm in Tupperville where he had a very happy childhood with his brothers, sisters, and supportive parents. Gifted with a sharp mind and incredible memory, Murray's curiosity led him to attend the Western Ontario Institute of Technology to study Chemistry. With the eternal support of Kae and his late brother "Bud", Murray "dared to dream" of an incredible life for his family by starting a chemistry business that later became Transchem. He was exceptionally proud of the work he did over 47 years to grow the company into a global leader in the car wash industry and was thrilled when his Sons, and later Grandsons, joined the business to work with him. Murray also took great pride in his Transchem Family - a growing group of coworkers, many who have worked alongside him for many years. Murray loved spending time with Kae, family and friends at their cottages in Turkey Point. He took great pride in ensuring that every aspect of the property was cared for, and he often stopped to speak with strangers who drove past and stopped to admire their lighthouse and property. He also loved fishing on his boat, playing golf with family and friends, watching live theatre, spending winter months in Florida, travelling the world and learning about new cultures, listening to music (especially his Grandson, Yung Brae, and son Tim's music) and relaxing at restaurants. Murray would often enjoy a meal and proclaim that he had just had the "best ever" of whatever food he tried. Murray was admired for his memory, sense of humour, collection of life stories and advice and his ability to share them with so many. He had a deep love for Hymns and spirituality and lived his life with a strong commitment to his values based on kindness, integrity, and love. Whether you knew him as Murray, Dad, Gramps, Moe, "Capt. Sudsy", "Mr. Big" or many other nicknames, know that Murray expressed that he wants us all to live our lives to the fullest, to cherish every day and to love each other in this "big wide world". Even in his final hours at the hospital, Murray was there to support his family through an incredibly difficult time. This is a perfect ending to an incredible life story that will live on through his family and the thousands of friends he leaves behind. To honour Murray's life, his family asks that you be kind to everyone you meet and do all that you can to put a smile on peoples faces - from your closest loved ones to the server at a restaurant and everyone in-between. Donations may be made in his name to Cambridge Memorial Hospital or Hamilton General Hospital. Kae will be able to specify the specific use of these donations in the months to come. A private funeral will be held on April 1st, the birthday of his late Mother, and a Celebration of Life will be held for Murray at the Galt Country Club on April 15th from 1-5pm. All are welcome to join in paying their respects and sharing stories about the impact Murray had on their lives.
