January 8, 1959 - January 19, 2021 Paul Francis Chaves of Kitchener, Ontario, passed away on January 19, 2021, after a valiant, defiant, decade long health battle. Born 62 years ago in Toronto and predeceased by his parents, Stella Rodrigues and Silvester Chaves, he will be fondly remembered by those who cared about him. They will remember the strong, athletic youth who joined the cable and wire industry and rose to the level of management at Nexans Canada. His brothers, Stephen (Theresa), Michael (Barbara) and sister Barb, will remember the shared secrets and adventures of childhood that only siblings share and no absents will diminish his light in those memories. His childhood, life long friends, Billy Hickey, Bruce Chaisson and Kevin Davis will hold near the memories of teenage years, especially the misadventures and the tall fishing talks late into the night as time swept them along. Paul's treasured daughters, Candace (Robert) and Cara (William) are embraced by the memories of; soccer Dad, camp Dad, police Dad, knight in shining armor Dad, and a father that wanted them to experience everything good in life and remember to value their self-worth. A Dad who insisted that if life knocked them down it was their duty to themselves to get back up and it is this gift that will help get them through this difficult time. His nephews and nieces will remember the uncle who loved his cottage and his big stubborn dogs, especially the newfoundlanders that adore him. Due to Covid-19 restrictions a small private family gathering and cremation will be arranged and entrusted to the Henry Walser Funeral Home, Kitchener (519)749-8467, and a Celebration of Life, for family and friends will be held at a later date when it is safe to do so. Donations in memory of Paul, may be made to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region, or the Kitchener-Waterloo Humane Society or an animal shelter of your choice. Visit
