Raymond TRAFFORD Obituary

In his customarily inconvenient fashion, Raymond Douglas Trafford got diagnosed with terminal cancer, was expected to survive for weeks, and unceremoniously left the world a few days later at 68 years of age, on January 26th, 2023.

He is predeceased by his wife, Deborah, his parents, and his sisters Maria and Helena. He is survived by his best friend, Beth; his children, Joelle (Dion), Jeff (Christa) and Ben (Melody); his stepson, Jordan (Emma); his grandchildren: Christian, Aaron, Blair, Sage, Callan, and River; his siblings Anne, Corinne, and Ronald; a legion of nieces and nephews; many friends (by which we mean "golf cronies"); and the various children he helped during his long career as a child therapist.

Later, he was a long haul trucker, and honestly, what was up with that? He recently ran for election to public office, returning to his roots of serving his community. Let it never be said that he was boring and predictable.

A visitation, service, and reception will be held on Monday, January 30th, at 11am at the Giddy Funeral Home at 280 David Street South in Fergus, Ontario.

Interment beside Deborah will occur at the Grove Cemetery at 129 York Road in Dundas, Ontario, on Tuesday, January 31st at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Groves Hospital Foundation in Fergus, Ontario would be appreciated, in recognition of the sensitivity, care, and professionalism they demonstrated in easing his transition.

Ray and family I'm not sure what to say I've been thinking of you and Debbie along with Joel Jeff and Ben it only seems like yesterday when I became part of your extended family as a scared and confused and at times angry 11 year old and now I am 57 yrs old man looking back on my life that has many twists and turns in it. Some good some bad tho things were difficult and confusing back all those years ago as I look back it's comforting to know because of the hardwork you and Debbie along with the dedication you put into insuring that all those children like myself who became part of your home and family as foster children in care left knowing we better than when we arrived or moved on to secondary care before reatuneing home the only thing I can equate to being happier than I was when I lived with you was when I was a member of the military unfortunately a well hidden addiction to over the counter sleeping pills leading to playing a big roll in me leaving the military despite reatuneing to a more difficult and disfuncshial family when I left that played a large role in the many twists and turns of my life I look back with apretaion and hart felt memories from having been part of your family as you move onto the next part of your journey go knowing that you have made and continue to playing pivotal role in many of the lives you still here

So with my depist thoughts and prayers to you Joelle Jeff and Ben and there familys are with you

Love Reg and my best friend in the whole wide world my dog max ( maximizer )

I am deeply saddened by the news of my old friend Ray leaving us. I was just thinking of him the other day. I googled him and discovered he had recently entered the world of politics. There was some contact information, and I was planning to give him a shout and see how he was doing. We had years of catching up to do, and I looked forward to speaking to him. He always made me laugh. This was two weeks ago. I shouldn't have waited. Where ever he is, he is making those around him laugh and will always have something interesting and off the wall to say. Dear Ray - please have a safe and peaceful journey to your new home. I will miss you and continue to remember you. You are not easy to forget Loads of love to you and your family at this very sad time. Suzanne Macaulay
