Ronald Preiss Obituary

Passed away peacefully January 13, 2022, in his 94th year at Lanark Long Term Care.
Beloved husband of Loraine (Snyder) for 71 years. Father of Sandra (Ian) Wismer, Stephen (Pam) Preiss, and Valerie (John) Davis. Lovingly remembered by 7 grandchildren- Andrew (Nicole) Wismer, Michael (Kaitlin) Wismer,Daniel( Jaclyn) Wismer, Laura Wismer, Joe Preiss, Bill Preiss, Lee( Kaitlyn) Preiss and 6 great- grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Hilda(Lenz) and Walter Preiss and his brother Bruce( Jean) Preiss all of Waterloo.
Ron was born and raised in Waterloo. He spent a life long career at Dominion Life and retired when it was bought by Manulife in 1985. He spent time in both Victoria and Edmonton for the company before settling and raising his family on Bluevale Street in Waterloo. He was a devout member of Trillium Lutheran Church( St John's Lutheran Church) and participated with enthusiasm in the men's swing bowling league. He spent many years with Scouts Canada and attended numerous Gilwell Reunions... we have the mugs!! He was a member of the Independent Order Of Odd Fellows in Waterloo.
In retirement he and Mom spent many enjoyable summers on the Kawartha Voyageur cruising the Trent Severn Waterway. He also spent many years at his vegetable garden out in Breslau and produced prehistoric sized zucchini's which Mom had to manage by spending hours in the kitchen baking zucchini bread and concocting various creative casseroles. He also enjoyed the planting of an Amaryllis bulb each winter. He meticulously managed the house and car and his filing. Dad was the fan of the double elastic system! He spent many hours researching and compiling the Preiss family tree. He was organized and prepared.
As children in the summer he collected our " apple orders" for the fall and in the winter our " maple syrup" orders for the spring. He was of good courage and prided himself in always being able to provide for Mom.
In August 2018 Mom and Dad left the family home on Bluevale and moved to Parkwood Mennonite Retirement Home. He then moved to Lanark Heights Long Term Care in May 2020 to be with Mom.
Our family would like to extend gratitude to the staff at Parkwood and Lanark for their care and compassion, both exceptional. We also wish to express our appreciation to those who reached out with kindness, support, and messages of sympathy and comfort in our sorrow and sadness.
A graveside service will be held at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Waterloo on Thursday January 20, 2022, at 11:00am with Pastor Ed Bastian officiating. Masks are required.

Condolences to Loraine and all their children grand and great grand children, Thanks to
Dr Wismer who I met lots of years ago for introducing me to her parents, I spent time with Ron and Loraine in their Lanark home, I have fond memories of Ron, I loved the way he smile when he said, " Sonie you are here, will you be coming tomorrow", he never forget to say "thank you" and for me to take care on the road. He loves his family and always look forward to Sandra's visit, he was sharp, he kept up with the news, We would read the headlines and he
gave his opinion. He likes having conversations, he told me to check the family book for my lastname and as long as it's there we're
related , I searched and said Ron, my lastname is not there, he said "it's okay, we are all connected"

Dr Wismer I am so glad you choose me to spend some time with your parents, I am honoured to have met him.
Ron Preiss you will be missed.
Sweet sleep Ron.
