Scott BUTLER Obituary

Scott passed away on May 6th at Freeport Hospital at the age of 67.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife and life partner Nancy. He was a wonderful dad to Melissa MacMillan (Brian), Kristina Butler (Ben), James Butler (Taylor), Adam Clair (Julie) and Beckie Clair (Jason). He was a terrific brother to Janis Butler (Walter), Debbie Planz (Roger) and Leslie Butler (Alan). He was a loving grandfather to Aidan, Lilah, Sam, Hannah, Beckett and Teddy. Many nieces and nephews will remember him as their fun and upbeat uncle.

Scott was a dentist for 37 years in Kitchener-Waterloo. He had a knack for building and fixing just about anything and was the person family and friends always called for help. Along with his lifelong friends in Amatol, Scott spent several weekends every year volunteering at YMCA camps: Belwood, Wabanaki, Ki-Wa-Y and John Island. There were so many reasons to love and admire Scott. He loved to tell a joke and always was a good and loyal friend. He was an organizer, a doer, a giver and a mentor. His wonderful and well-lived life enriched the lives of those who knew him. Every family has someone who holds it together, and Scott was that person in ours. He will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.

Scott's family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. A Celebration of Life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow - all are welcome.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the YMCA of Three Rivers Waterloo Region or a Charity of Your Choice would be appreciated by the family (cards available at the funeral home).

Saddened to her of Dr. Butlers passing. He was our family dentist for 37 years. I fondly remember him humming a tune while working on our teeth and catching up on what was new with our family. He will be missed. Our heartfelt condolences to the family.

I was so sorry to hear of Scott´s passing just this past week. I would have attended his celebration of life if I had have been aware as I have known Scott and his family since my teenage years. Scott was also my dentist for many years and it was always great to hear what he and his sisters had been up to.

I would like to express my sincere condolences to all of his family. I know he will be missed as I always thought of him as a "kind and gentle soul"

Some people don't like going to the dentist. That was never a concern for us. Scott was professional and loved people. He was always upbeat, friendly, a great guy to be around. Heartfelt condolences to the family. John and Cheryl Kip

I have fond memories of Scott from my days overseeing residential camps at the YMCA. As a member of Amatol he was often around the camps (Wabanaki, Belwood and Ki-wa-y) helping out with projects for the betterment of the camps. He always had a smile, lifted up the spirits of those around him and had a great sense of humour. My condolences to the family. I trust you will celebrate the great memories while you grieve your loss.

Scott was most assuredly one of the really "good" guys. It has been a while since I had the pleasure of sharing time with Scott but I vividly remember his gentle nature, his kindness, his caring and generosity. That being said, his fun loving side always shone through. Scott will undoubtedly be missed by anyone who spent time with him and most certainly by family. He was taken much too early...Ted

Sad to hear about Scott's passing. I knew him through summer camp. There were many things to admire about him but what stands out especially, in my memory, is that he was extraordinarily kind. Sending condolences to the family.

So saddened to hear of Scott´s passing
Many years ago we played basketball with a bunch of young (at that time ) dentists. Sorry to have lost touch but that is the way life is. Always smiling and we had many conversations about what he was building at the time...sorry for your loss.
