Stew will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers Nicholas, Bernard, Wilfred, John, sister Theresa Osthoff and in-laws Alex and Dorothy Ernewein, Rosemary Ernewein, Joe Winchester, Bernie and Mary Gillis. Stew was born in Elk lake On, and as a young boy his family moved to a farm in Ayton, Ontario. On the farm he learned the value of hard work which he practiced throughout his life and passed that work ethic on to his family. He was a quiet man with a unique sense of humor happiest when his family especially the "young ones" were around. He was the proud owner of Hartech Grinding (Sonny's Sharpening) of Waterloo for 40 years. Prior to that he was employed by Monteith McGrath Construction, Ontario Culvert & BNR Rentals. He especially enjoyed dealing with his many customers throughout Ontario while involved with the sharpening business however, poor health required him to retire much before he was ready. For many years he loved spending time hauling his 5th wheel to many different campgrounds around Ontario in the summer and joining friends and family in Florida in the winter. Stew was a devoted member of St. Michael's Church. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus and served his community for many years with his involvement in Cubs, Scouts, and Columbian Squires. The family wishes to thank all the Doctors and staff of Grand River Hospital for their support, care and compassion. Also thanks to all the community nurses who took care of Stew's needs for many years. Visitation will be held at Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick St, Kitchener, on Friday, September 30, 2022 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St Michael's Church, 80 University Ave W, Waterloo, followed by a reception in the church hall.
