Winifred HAYES Obituary

It is with sadness for our loss and gratitude for her life that we announce that Winifred (Winn) Mary Hayes (nee Marsden) died July 27th, 2017. Predeceased by her husband Orville in 1987, Winn died surrounded by loving friends all of whom considered her family. Winn was born in North Vancouver on December 22, 1918.

She worked as a secretary at the Vancouver Daily Province for 7 years before going on to the Vancouver School Board. She worked here for 10 years, rising to Recording Secretary for the Board.

While living in Vancouver, Winn volunteered as a Nurse's Aide at the Cancer Clinic and as an Assistant at the GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre working with children with disabilities. Winn's hobbies included sewing, gardening, crafts and music.

Winn had tremendous courage and fortitude. She was willing to take risks, and to be self determining. Winn's life exemplifies grace and resilience sustained by an abiding faith in God. She inspired all those with whom she came in contact and will be deeply missed.

A service celebrating Winn's life will be held on Tuesday, September 26th at 1:30 at the South Delta Baptist Church.

Aunt Winn was a gem and I'm so glad we were able to reconnect with her these last few years.She was an inspiration and I wish we had been able to visit her one more time.

Winifred Mary Hayes whom I considered my second mom. She is the definition of Christianity.I've learned a lot from this woman within the 15 years of working together. I love her so much and she will always be in my heart.
