Allan Schlosser Obituary

Peacefully, at home after a long courageous battle with cancer, Al passed away on December 10th 2020, in his 83rd year, with his family by his side. Beloved husband for 60 years of Myrna (nee Chopp). Loving father of Deborah, Christine (Brian), David and Allan (Barbara). Cherished grampa of Caitlyn (Simon), Adele (Josh), Carleigh, Maddi, Jackson, Katherine and Alexander. Survived and deeply missed by his sisters Audré, Arlene (Joseph), Andrea, Alexis (Michael), Alana (Doug), sisters-in-law Teresa, Beatrice, brother-in-law Philip Chopp (Sally) and many nieces and nephews. Al is predeceased by his parents Albert and Anne, brothers Albert, Anthony (Connie), Aldon, sister Ann Elizabeth (Frank), brothers-in-law Robert and Stuart. Al retired from Dofasco in 1992 after 24 years of dedicated service. He also had a long, active career in football and basketball as both a player and referee. Al enjoyed working in his garden, his crossword puzzles and loved a good mystery. In later years, Al became an avid bridge player too. Special thank you to Dr. Jennifer Jones, her nurse Paula, VON nurse Karen for their care and to the PSWs who made Al comfortable while at home. Cremation has taken place. Donations to The War Amps or Hamilton/Burlington SPCA would be appreciated by the family. In memory of Al have a burger and savour a sweet treat! Notes of sympathy and condolence may be made at www.donaldvbrown.ca Remember Me: To the living, I am gone. To the sorrowful, I will never return. To the angry, I was cheated, But to the happy, I am at peace, and to the faithful, I have never left. I cannot be seen, but I can be heard. Remember me in your heart, your thoughts, your memories of the times we loved, the times we cried, the times we fought, the times we laughed. For if you always think of me, I will never be gone. Till we meet again.

Pat and I will always think of you, Al. We did have that burger and homemade shortbread in your honour! I will always hear your voice "you just missed her" when I phone Myrna.

There was never a more dedicated football official than Al in the H.F.O.A. His tough love, high expectations of himself and by extension for those officials in our association, forced us all - some kicking and screaming - to become better officials. We are all in his debt.

Al was Referee in Chief for the H.O.F.A and I was his assistant Referee in Chief. I remember working with his brother Tony and remember refing his son Alan when he played minor football with all watching our crew from the side line. He helped develop many official whether they like it or not. He knew his rules and if he didn't he could make them up and nobody would question him. My condolences to the family and Al thanks for the memories. Alex Komarniski
