Alma BURGESS Obituary

September 20, 1935 - September 10, 2022

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing our beloved mother, and grandmother, at St Peters Hospital, Hamilton. Predeceased by her husband, Christopher (2020), Alma will be greatly missed by her son, Glenn Burgess (Heidi), daughter, Lori Burgess-Rossi (Mark), and the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Nadine (Sal), Bradley, and Chloe. Alma's profound love for her family showed in her relationships with her loving sister, Mary Ellsworth (Terry), and brothers, Allister Jones (Jean) of Newfoundland, Douglas Jones and George Jones(deceased). She will be remembered fondly by her nieces and nephews that she loved so dearly.
Alma was born in Newfoundland, and she remained close to her roots. She enjoyed visiting her family in Newfoundland and loved a good jigs dinner, music, and dancing. Alma was well known for her legendary chocolate brownies, and Sunday roast beef dinner with Yorkshire pudding. She carried the nickname "Dancing Queen," when she enjoyed the many programs through the Alzheimer Society and her retirement homes. Alma took great pride in her early career as a nurse and relocated to Hamilton to work at the Chedoke Sanatorium Tuberculosis Hospital. She met Chris in 1957 and they shared a beautiful life together for 63 years. When Chris started Skyway Lawn Equipment Limited in 1966, Alma was by his side, and was loved by many customers for her kindness and quick wit.
Thank you to the staff of St. Peter's Hospital, Season's Retirement, and Chartwell Orchards. Special thanks to her private caregivers, and friends, Lynn, Lisa, Kristen, Amanda, Sandra and Flynn for their dedicated and loving support of Alma, and our family. We are forever grateful.
With respect to Alma's wishes, cremation has taken place with a private family service. Arrangements are entrusted to Donald V Brown Funeral Home, Stoney Creek. In Lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Niagara.
