Anne STEWART Obituary

Peacefully, surrounded by the love of her daughter and family, Anne passed away at Amica Dundas on Friday, June 3, 2022, just shy of her 101st birthday. Predeceased by the love of her life, Alexander Stewart. Cherished and dearly loved mother of Leslee Stewart (Steve Kirsner), and the late David Stewart. Proud grandmother of Craig (Darcie) and Kyle. Great-grandmother of Maryn and Camden. Fondly remembered by Lynn. Anne was predeceased by her siblings Edward (the late Mary), Peter, Bernice (the late Walter), Amelia, Mary (the late Alex), Zigmund, Julie (the late Benny), Frank (the late Betty), Joseph (the late Stella) and Charlotte (the late Ed). She will always be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Anne was very proud that she was born in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. At the age of 19, she came to Hamilton to join some of her siblings for more opportunities. On New Year's Eve of 1947 she met the love of her life, Alexander Stewart and they were married on November 11, 1950. They raised their family in Hamilton, where Alex was a Staff Sergeant with the Hamilton Police Department and Anne took care of the home and cherished her life as a mother and wife. She was a devout Catholic and a longtime parishioner of St. Eugene's Roman Catholic Church. When Alex retired, they traveled and went on many cruises together and enjoyed their time cottaging up north near Parry Sound. Alex passed away on November 25, 2008. Anne moved to Amica Dundas in 2010 and was blessed to have been able to spend her final years surrounded by the care and compassion from the care team. The family wishes to thank Amica for everything they have done for Anne. A special thank you to Dr. Macaluso. Visitation at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Thursday, June 9, 2022, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Vigil Prayers at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Eugene's Roman Catholic Church, 232 Queenston Road, Hamilton on Friday, June 10, 2022, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. If desired, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Leslee, sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved Mom.
I have so many fond memories of your Mom, Dad and David, and your house on Jefferson. My 13th birthday party was in your basement. Your parents tolerated a lot of laughing and giggling that night. Lots of good times and good memories.
May they all be united to Rest in Peace.

My sincere sympathy to the family for the passing of Anne. I had the pleasure of knowing Alex and David through a career in the Hamilton Police Service. May you have many great memories of your time with Anne. She was a true role model.

The last of my dad, aunt's and uncles of that generation. I've been thinking of her a lot lately, remembering the few times I visited her in Dundas. She only remembered me as "Joe's son" and I miss her already. Hope to visit Sydney this summer, where I'll be thinking of her again.
