1937 - 2023
Passed away peacefully with her family at her side on February 1, 2023, in her 86th year after a lengthy illness. Beloved wife of the late Donald Roy Bell (2022). Dear mother of Craig (Linda), Janice (J.D.) Bishop and Laurene (George) Cihosky. Cherished grandmother of J.T. (Val), Shane (Jessica), James (Samantha), Kyle (Lauren) and Carly (Michael), and great-grandmother of six. Sister to Murray (Bonnie) Huffman. Predeceased by her parents Ross and Josephine Huffman.
Joyce grew up in Hamilton where she attended Delta collegiate and was active in many sports and music. Always busy, Joyce started her first career in aquatics in her early 30's and at the same time attended York University, earning an honours BA in geography. In her early 50's she shifted her career to HR, working with a fashion retailer until her retirement in 1997. She loved both family and history, so it was fitting that in retirement she became an accomplished genealogist who published much of our family history. In 2004, she proudly received her United Empire Loyalist designation. Joyce enjoyed living in the Villages of Glancaster for the past 22 years and will be fondly remembered by many friends. Special thanks to Dr. Loewith for advocating for our mother's care and to her lung health team Drs Hambly, Cox, and Khalidi for helping to extend our time with our mother for so many extra years. Visitation will take place at DODSWORTH & BROWN FUNERAL HOME, 378 Wilson St. E., Ancaster (905-648-3852), on Saturday, February 11, 2023, from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 12 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. A private family interment will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health.
