Bill MAHONEY Obituary

A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He left this world peacefully after 82 years on December 16, 2021.

Bill was known by many as a respected hockey coach and player. From captain of the Peterborough Pete's, to a player and coach with the McMaster Marlins, to becoming the head coach of the Minnesota North Stars, his passion for hockey and his teams was inspirational.

After hockey he turned his focus to his Tim Horton franchises and through his hard work and commitment built it into a family business.

He was best known and loved for both his commanding personality and spirited character. Bill made sure his loyalty and love for his friends and family were always his greatest priorities.

Bill was the beloved husband of Doreen, loving father to Jeff Mahoney and Karen Bellehumeur (Dave), and adored grandfather to Julia Bellehumeur and Angie Bellehumeur. Bill will be sadly missed by sister Jo Ann Simmons (late Bill), sisters-in-law Carol Paquet (Larry) and Kay Hickey (Mike) and many nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by loving sisters Patricia (late Carm) and Sandra (late Ray).

Visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Monday, December 20, 2021, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. with prayers at 5:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 777 Valetta Street, on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. Proof of double vaccination and registration will be required to attend the visitation at the funeral home and registration will be required to attend the Mass. I was so sad to hear of Bill´s passing. He was always a calming presence whenever I was in his company and I always looked forward to the times I had a chance to chat with him. Many great memories and he was always such a great friend to my father. My deepest condolences.

To Doreen and family - We were struck immediately with sadness but shortly broke into a wry smile, agreeing how fortunate we were to have been welcomed into the circle of Mahoney and friends even beyond the arena. Many familiar
names here indicate we should celebrate an exceptional man.

Very sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I knew him at St Peters High School in the late '50s. I really enjoyed watching him play hockey for the Petes. A great hockey player and a real gentleman.
