Christian Kent Obituary

July 7, 1944 - March 12, 2022

On the 12th of March 2022, in his 78th year, while surrounded by his family, Christian was welcomed into the arms of Jesus at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton. He is survived by his wife of 51 plus years, Merrilyn; his son, Paul; his daughter-in-law, Esperanza; his sister, Gail (Roger); his brother, Mark (Julie). He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Henry (Debbie); his sisters-in-law Leronna (Bob); Debra (Brian), Lucy (Mark), along with many nieces and nephews. For over fifteen years, Christian suffered from Parkinson's Disease and blindness. But his ailments couldn't stop him: Christian loved Jesus and was a true reflection of God's love. This was seen in his compassion, wisdom, gift of encouragement, sense of humour, heart for vulnerable people and the impact on the lives of countless individuals. He was a passionate man, spreader of hope and wanted people to know that they mattered. Christian loved sports, playing and coaching baseball, hockey, and football for many years. He was an avid, diehard Chicago Blackhawks, Georgia Bulldogs and Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed driving down to Florida and Georgia for many years, and built a network of friends, including a church family in Athens, Georgia. As marriage counsellor for most of his life, he taught a marriage seminar there, and also at other churches. He counselled people throughout his life, including in his final days. A special thanks to the staff St. Joseph's Hospital who cared for him many times and on the day of his death; the staff at Shalom Village Long Term Care, for caring for him since April 2021; along with many support workers from Bayshore and VON, who cared for him for many years. Christian attended Living Hope Christian Assembly and loved his extended church family and Pastors. One of his last wishes was to attend church one last time before he died, which he was able to do a week prior to his death. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Parkinson's Canada or the CNIB would be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bay Gardens Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 20th from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton. A chapel service will take place the following day on Monday, March 21st starting at 11 a.m. with a burial at Mount Hamilton Cemetery following the service.

Daniel 12:3 - "Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever."
Matthew 25:21 - "Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.'"

Daniel 12:13 - "But you, go your way till the end; for you shall rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days."
Psalm 116:15 - "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints."

I cannot tell you how much of a blessing Chris was to my life. His Christ centered council helped me to work through a broken relationship. He was also pivotal in launching my new relationship with Catherine my wife of 19 years. He was truly a man whose gentle heart mirrored that of Christ. He shared Christ's passion for loving relationships. I am certain that his life blessed countless others. Jim and Catherine Franklin
