Clifford Brettle Obituary

Clifford passed away peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital on Wednesday, November 3rd, in his 94th year. He was the loving husband and dance partner of Eileen Veronica (2014.) Loving father of Kevin (Dale) and Terri and proud grandfather of Dylan (Brian) and Ryley (Devon). He was delighted to become a great grandfather to Rowan and Griffin. He is predeceased by his parents Irene and Charles, his brother Jack and brothers in law Harry, George, Thomas and Hugh. He is fondly remembered by sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews in Canada, England, Australia and New Zealand. Cliff began his careers serving as a Marine Engineer on submarines in HMNS and in the Merchant Navy, where he sailed around the globe. Immigrating to Canada in 1952 he worked at the American Can Company and upon retirement, began a new career as a technician in the McMaster Geography Department. He finally retired at 65, enjoying close to 30 yrs of retirement. He was a quiet man who expressed his thoughts and gratitude to others through his poetry. Many agencies worked to assist him in being independent in his home and the family would like to thank the many staff of VON and LHIN for their care and compassion. He was also blessed to have kind neighbours, the Crowe and Beaulieu families, whose caring and watchful presence were appreciated by the family. In accordance with Cliff's wishes, cremation has taken place and a close family gathering is planned. Cliff was aware of his good fortune in life but, with the passing of his beloved Eileen and outliving many contemporaries, he struggled with his solitude. In lieu of flowers, honour Cliff by spending time with a senior.
