Colleen Lois (nee Sass) HYSLOP Obituary

Colleen Lois - October 21, 1965 - March 9, 2020
Robert Steven - May 11, 1968 - March 11, 2020

Tragically as a result of a car accident on March 9th we lost Colleen, then devoted husband Robert of a broken heart on March 11th. Predeceased by Colleen's father Joseph Sass (1979), and their nephew Scott Dezoete (2019). Survived by their parents Lois Sass, Bud and Kathy Hyslop, Colleen's siblings Joanne (Len) Dezoete, Paul (Kim) Sass and Robert's brother Rick (Robyn) Hyslop. They will be remembered as a special aunt and uncle to Michael, Brooke, Eric (Sam), Braeden, Taylor and Kyle. Colleen worked for 35 years for Cumis Life Insurance. Robert worked as a Hangar Manager for AIC at Hamilton Airport. Both will be sadly missed by co-workers, friends and special friend Randy. Colleen was a vibrant, caring person who touched all who knew her and Rob was a gentle giant of a man who was kind and respectful to everyone he came in contact with. A special thanks to all first responders who treated them both with dignity and respect. In accordance with their wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home - "William J. Markey Chapel", 947 Rymal Road East, HAMILTON (905.574.0405) on Sunday, March 15, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. followed by Memorial Service in the Chapel at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation made to the Hamilton-Burlington SPCA on behalf of their fur-babies Harley, Hershey, Moose and Molly would be appreciated. I only knew Colleen. When the legal department of The Cooperators moved from Guelph to Burlington, Colleen welcomed us with open arms. She with her close friend and colleague, Craig Marshall, was the voice and history of CUMIS. She was an amazing human being; always up, always welcoming; and she made my life a treat every day that I was there. I am also a dog lover, as was she, and she shared her and her husband's passion for them. She was a real inspiration and sadly missed. I didn't know her husband, but from everything I have heard, they were two peas in a pod---and he will be sadly missed as well. Too soon, too young---I hope that they bring their sprint and joy to the next place they visit.

I worked with Colleen at Willy Woggs And years later at the Checkered Flag. Colleen was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside, and so brilliant. Her smile could light up any room she was in. So easy to understand when Rob fell in love with her. My heart is hurting for all of Rob and Colleen's family members. My deepest condolences Brad and Cheryl Jackson.

I knew Rob from Glanford Aviation Services, years ago. Glanford moved its operation from one hangar to another hangar and the new offices needed to be painted. Rob painted in the same manner he treated life. He was soft spoken, polite and friendly, and in his office clothes, carried on answering questions from staff and customers while painting. No fuss and no mess! I did not know Colleen but I knew Rob cared for her very much. It is so sad to lose good people.

Such a painful loss and it is so hard to find the words. I worked with Rob at Glanford Aviation and I remember how full of life, humour, and kindness he was. He will be sorely missed as will his beloved Colleen. Be at peace my friend.

I worked with Rob for a number of years at the Hamilton airport. He was a very kind and gentle man offering insightful guidance to every conversation and situation. He was a pleasure to work with and displayed an attitude toward life that invited you to share his calm demeanour. He constantly offered assistance to any situation... that is just the way he was. In my almost 50 years as a pilot , I have not worked with a finer Man. A man who offered a presence of caring and stability, a man of fine character and understanding. Unfortunately I did not have the pleasure of meeting his lovely wife, but I am certain that a common thread wove them together. My condolences to their families. Rob and Colleen, I am certain, will be greatly missed.
