David Goit Obituary

It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of David Arnold Goit surrounded by his loving family on the morning of Monday, May 22nd, 2023 at the age of 61 following a battle with lung and brain cancer. Dave was a loving husband to his wife of 34 years Leanne (nee Bernard) and beloved father of Stephanie (Dylan) and Tyler and dogfather to his faithful beagles Bonnie and Clyde. Loving son of Arnold and Wilma (Cranston) Goit, Brother of John (Jana), Paul and Carolynn (Mark). Son-in-law to Lee Bernard (Fran) (Pat - predeceased) and brother-in-law of Scott (Chris), Mark (Julie) and Michael (Kyle) Bernard. Cousin and nephew to many and uncle to several nieces and nephews. Dave grew up in Caistorville and moved to Hamilton in 1990 after he and Leanne were married. He worked as an electrician, but his true passion was refereeing. David had a long history as a referee across Hamilton as a fixture at the Hamilton Double Rinks, and many other rinks for many different hockey leagues for more than 40 years. We will all miss his passionate storytelling, magnificent mullet, his smile and his air drumming to classic rock. The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at the Hamilton General Hospital, Juravinski Cancer Centre and St. Peter's Hospital for their care and support. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Binbrook Agricultural Hall, 2600 HWY 56, Binbrook, ON, on May 26th, 2023 from 4PM-8PM. In keeping with Dave's wishes, this will be a casual event with music, sharing stories about Dave and laughter...lots of laughter. This will be open to anyone who was fortunate to have Dave in their lives. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hamilton Burlington SPCA would be greatly appreciated.

I´m so sorry to hear of David´s passing. He was my neighbour and I used to go down to their house and stay when his mum and dad went out. I was only three years older but we had a grand time playing hockey in the basement. I send my deepest condolences to his wife and family, and to his mum dad and siblings. May he rest in peace. I had the pleasure of referring with Dave for many years , most at the Hamilton Double Rinks. Dave was always committed , dedicated , knew how to manage a hockey game and he would always have his partners back . We shared countless memories and laughs throughout the years. Sorry to hear of his passing and I'm sure he will be skating on the Big Ice up above.

You always knew it would be a great game when Dave was reffing. He kept the attitude light at all times and mastered the art of refereeing men´s league which is almost impossible to do. Even though we only knew him through hockey it felt like he was a close friend every time we spoke. David was a beauty and will be missed by our entire team. To the family, please know how David made all of our lives better through his positive attitude and humour. We always appreciated and will never forget this.

My Deepest condolences for Dave Family.
I grew up with Dave and went to school with him.
Last time I seen Dave was at the high School reunion. He was truly a great person; I am truly sorry I could not make the celebration of life for him as I live in Calgary. To all of Dave's Family, his wife and all his friends, I am truly sorry for loss.
