David McArthur Obituary

Peacefully following a battle with cancer, September 21, 2022. Leaves behind loving daughters Paula and Shannon, sons-in-law Graham and Alex, former spouse Yvonne and grandson Anthony.
Born September 30, 1942 in Troon, Scotland, to David and Teresa Campbell. After the elder David's death in WWII, Teresa met and married Ray McArthur, who took on young David as his stepson and moved the family to Canada in 1947.
David spent his formative years in Toronto, moved to the United States and adopted American citizenship to enlist in the war in Vietnam, served two tours as a battlefield medic and was honorably discharged in 1969. During this time he met and married Yvonne Marshman, and had their daughter Paula in 1970. The family eventually settled in Orangeville, Ontario, where they had their daughter, Shannon, in 1976. They moved to Oakville where the girls would grow up. David and Yvonne were to part company in 1983.
David worked as an electrician and building superintendent on the shores of Lake Ontario in Bronte while pursuing his lifelong passions of sailing, reading history and chatting with friends. He had a strong love for his adopted country of Canada and its proud tradition of military service. He composed poetry and wrote occasionally on a blog to share his opinions with the world. Friends and neighbours recall his cheerful demeanour, playful grin, off-beat sense of humor, and his buzzing electric scooter.
There will be no formal service and in lieu of flowers, well-wishers are respectfully asked to consider a donation to their local chapter of the Canadian Legion or any charity that assists veterans.

I fondly remember David from the early years when he and Yvonne were married and had their lovely daughter's. In recent years I read his blogs and kept in touch on line. He will be sadly missed.
