David McCULLOCH Obituary

It is with a broken heart that we say goodbye to Dave who left us on December 4, 2020. A devoted, loving husband and father to Sheila, Wendy (John) and Paul (Audrey). An adoring Grandad, who always had a twinkle in his eyes for Sophie, Lauren and Claire. He will be dearly missed by his many wonderful friends, neighbours and family, including those in the United Kingdom. We will forever cherish countless moments filled with laughter and love. Dave served a distinguished career as a police officer for 30 years with the Hamilton Police Service, following his time as a "bobby" at London's Metropolitan Police in England. He was an accomplished musician who played the trumpet in numerous bands, notably with the George Rose Big Band for 35 years. Nothing made Dave happier than making other people laugh. He was known for his genuine kindness and a willingness to help others. Heartfelt thanks for the exceptional care and support provided by the dedicated staff at Wentworth Lodge in Dundas, and to all the special caregivers that have been a part of team Dave. We plan to celebrate Dave's life on a date to be determined in 2021. If desired, donations made to the Salvation Army or to Wentworth Lodge are appreciated, in lieu of flowers. Dundas, Ontario (please contact the family to obtain the donation form) To my Dave: Loved you yesterday, love you still, always have and always will. David was a gentleman and a fine detective. It was a pleasure to work in the C.I.D. with him, and my heart goes out to Sheila at this very sad time. I remember fondly being at their beautiful garden party 40th wedding anniversary. R.I.P. David

Sheila, Wendy, Paul and family,
My sincere condolences for your loss.
I was saddened when I heard of Dave’s passing. I’ll always remember him fondly. I’ll always remember his welcoming smile when he greeted me, and his great sense of humor.

Dave was one of my first partners in CID. With Gary Ashbaugh and Dave, they taught me a lot about policing but also about work life balance. I remember fondly dropping in on Dave's Birthday party, or watching him play with the band in a park in Port Dover. Dave was a true gentleman with a keen sense of humor and a love for his family and friends. We will certainly miss you Dave.

I had the pleasure of being in Dave's presence on and off the job. He was a thoroughly dignified, thoughtful man. Even though he was an excellent officer, he could have also been an excellent stand up comedian. His dry, witty delivery always broke me up. As already stated, "see you on the other side, Dave".

Dear Aunt Sheila, Wendy, and Paul,
Our deepest condolences on the passing of Uncle Dave. The past few years were not the kindest to him but he earned his angel wings and it is time for him to fly free from suffering. We are thinking of you all with sadness in our hearts but with fond memories of days gone by. I am often in your old neighbourhood and when I drive by the old house I can still picture Uncle Dave outside on the front lawn waving a warm welcome into the house.
Godspeed Uncle Dave.
Love & prayers to all of you.

"He was known for his genuine kindness and a willingness to help others." That statement is certainly an understatement if there ever was one. As a young police officer in 1986, I experienced firsthand how genuine David's desire was to mentor young officers. David was the best CID Staff Sergeant I've ever had the pleasure to work for. He was very knowledgable, and being the only detective working nights back then, he was an invaluable resource, such that when you heard that very distinguished English voice come on the radio to say "52-car 10-8" you knew it was going to be a good night. Cheers David... and prayers and condolences to your blessed family.

Sheila and Family...our deepest condolences on your loss. I first met Dave when I was hired by HWRP and he was always generous with his time and patient with inexperienced younger Officers. Turns out years later we became neighbours (Montgomery Drive) where I was able to truly understand his sharp wit, sense of humour and appreciated having him and Sheila as neighbours. Hoping everyone’s many great family memories with Dave will provide a measure of comfort to all throughout this difficult time.

Nancy and I are so saddened to hear of Dave's passing. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Sheila, Wendy, Paul and the entire family.
Dave was a true gentleman--never without a joke. He was most certainly a dedicated officer. He and I shared many coffees at work. We spent many hours on the golf course--neither of us mastering the game--but they were truly enjoyable times with more laughs than strokes. We heard him play with his band (and an excellent band it was ) and he so enjoyed entertaining. Davey boy--you will be sorely missed.

I worked with Dave in my early career and always remembered him as a gentleman with a wonderful sense of humour. He was a good copper and was noted for his compassion to the victims of crime. May he Rest In Peace. Sheila and family, I am sorry for your loss.

I was shocked when I read that David had passed away. I first met Dave at the old Kenilworth Station around 1973. He was easy to get to know due to his sense of humor. He joined the Police Gun Club and eventually travelled to a big match in Indiana with five other shooters. He was one of the "good guys". R.I.P., mate.

David was a gentleman, a caring, devoted police officer who embodied the values of his oath. Always positive, inquisitive with a penchant for humour. One of the "good guys." David is missed.
