Passed away at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington on Saturday, January 29, 2022, in his 69th year. Beloved husband of Rosemary Luo. Loving father of Vanessa of Hamilton and Lesley of Burlington. Dear brother of Rhonda Klim and her husband David of Beamsville and Donald and his wife Bena of London. Dear son-in-law of Zhihua Luo and Lanqiu Ma of Hamilton and brother-in-law of Wei Luo; Sara Luo; and Jen Luo. Cherished uncle of Graeme Klim (Louise) of Paris, France; Evan Klim (Liz) of Toronto; Elaine Klim and her fiancé, Brandon Bittner, of Beamsville; Naomi and Isabella Mountain of London; Yin and Yaqi of China; Selina of Toronto; and Wesley of Chicago. Nephew of Arnold Corlett of Hanover and Gail Mountain of Durham. Predeceased by his parents Clarence and Walterina (nee Corlett) Mountain and a brother Dennis Mountain. Dean was born in Hanover, Ontario, when his parents were living on his Grandma and Grandpa Mountain's farm in Normanby Township outside of Durham. He then moved with his parents to Stoney Creek and then to Winona, where he spent his formative years. After earning his Ph.D. in Economics from Western in 1979, he started working for the Ministry of Energy and teaching part-time at York University. He then worked for Ontario Hydro and in the late 1980s, he became a member of the Finance and Business Economics Area of the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University. Dean had a true passion for research, and he was well respected for his academic work, publishing numerous articles for over 40 years. He also had a private consulting company, often working on energy-related projects. Dean enjoyed various sports in his youth, and he took great pleasure in teaching his own daughters how to ice skate and roller blade. Having played the accordion when he was younger, he also mentored his daughters as they learned the piano and other musical instruments. Dean was a very humble, kind, and gentle man who will truly be missed by all who knew him. Throughout his illness, he appreciated the encouragement he received from friends and family through cards, letters, text messages, telephone calls, prayers, and visits. Thanks to all of the staff at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington and at the Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton. A private funeral service will be held for the immediate family at Smith's Funeral Home on Brant Street. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the
Canadian Cancer Society. Online condolences and notes of sympathy may be left on Dean's Tribute Page on Smith's Funeral Home's website (
