Dermot St. Croix Obituary

Peacefully passed away at St. Joseph's hospital in Hamilton, Ontario, at age 92, after a short illness.
Predeceased by his beloved wife of 26 years, Bessie, parents Aiden and Bridget, sister Mildred, brothers John, Lar, Peter, Philip, Gus and Aiden.
Survived by many cherished family members, sisters Helen (Stephenville, NL) and Mary (St. John's, NL), sisters-in-law Edna and Geraldine (St. Vincent's, NL), and many beloved nieces, nephews and other family. Also by his stepson Scott (Margaret) Gardiner, and step-grandchildren Ben and Kyle (Calgary, AB). Born in Newfoundland, Dermot moved to Hamilton in 1951. He was a dedicated employee at Dofasco for 36 years. He was very proud of his Newfoundland roots and kept in close touch with family 'back home'. He was a voracious reader, preferring books about history and politics, while always enjoying a friendly debate on current events. He was a devout Catholic with a deep love of his faith. Sincere thanks to his many dear friends, especially Jim, Ruth and David, his church community, and neighbours and staff at El Mirador apts. for their friendship, support, and generosity. A special thank you to the staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, CTU Central, for their tender and attentive care. Following cremation, a funeral mass will be held March 3, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 20 Idlewood Ave., Hamilton, which will also be streamed via Zoom.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Scott & Margaret Gardiner

March 31, 2022

We were so saddened to hear of our stepfather's passing. We will miss our phone conversations and playful discussions on everything from world events to Canadian politics to history. Though it's been 13 years since his wife, our mom (Bessie) passed away, we often think of their fun times together, including memorable travels through Ontario, Newfoundland, New York and Calgary. They cherished their pet dog Bingo, a wedding gift from a close friend. We will treasure the memories we have of visiting them from Calgary, and seeing them enjoy spending time with their grandsons Ben & Kyle.
We will always remember Dermot fondly.
May he rest in peace.
