Passed away peacefully after a brief illness, at Clarion Nursing Home, Friday January 14, 2022, at the age of 95. He is now reunited with his beloved wife Radojka (Roda), his daughter Nancy and grandson Alec. He will be missed dearly by his remaining children Michael (Marisa), Dusan and son-in-law Dusan Grubnic. Always to be remembered with the utmost affection as 'Deda' by his grandchildren Christopher (Katy), Stephen and Tanja. Predeceased by his parents Arso and Naca Divjak. He was the loving brother of the late Mike Divjak (the Late Adele), and brother in law of the late Nevenka (Nancy) Marijan. Dad will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews as well as their children.
Dad was born in a small village in the Lika region of present-day Croatia (formerly Yugoslavia). He fought with the Allied forces in World War II, joining the resistance movement at the age of 16. Captured as prisoner of war, escaped with help from his father and brother Mike, they became displaced citizens, moving to Italy, Germany and finding a home in England for a number of years. A move to Canada in 1954 included work and travel across the country. Dad always loved to tell stories of his time in British Columbia and Montreal but then finally settled down with mom, who was from the same small village but living in Cleveland USA. Married in 1958, they started a family soon after, moving to Hamilton for the rest of their years.
Dad taught us the value of hard work, honesty and always family first. He will be missed but memories will last forever.
Special thank you to the wonderful support from the nurses, PSW's, recreation and admin staff at Clarion. They made dad feel comfortable and welcome especially in these trying times. We are forever grateful for your service.
