Dorothy Forbes Obituary

May 24, 1934 - May 2, 2022
Peacefully, on May 2, 2022, in her 88th year, Dorothy passed away at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (WLMH). Dorothy is survived by her son Kevin, daughters Cindy Organ (Pius), Tracey Danowski, and Carrie Dudley, grandchildren Darcie, Chelsea, Jared (Kate), Wyatt, Paige, Matthew, Shaye (Joe), Cheryl, and great-granddaughters Dayna, Harper, and Sophia. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Forbes, grandson Jeffrey Dudley, sons-in-law Brian Danowski and Frank DeFelice, sister Elizabeth (Betty) Lowry, brothers-in-law Bill Lowry, Duncan, Val, Allister, sisters-in-law Jennie, Barbara, Margaret, Mary, Isabel, Christene, Florence and her parents Edward and Kathleen (Woodward) Lewis. Dorothy was born on May 24, 1934, in Hamilton, Ontario, and spent her youth on the mountain in Hamilton. She and her husband Bill married in 1954 and were married for 63 years until Bill's passing. Bill and Dorothy joined the Grimsby Home Building Co-operative that built 21 new homes using the owners' sweat equity, a home that they resided in for over 60 years. In addition to raising her four children, since 1969 Dorothy worked in accounting in a number of car dealerships in Grimsby. She was also very active in Grimsby, bowling and playing cards for decades. Dorothy was a skilled knitter and seamstress, having learned to knit socks in grade two for WWII soldiers. Over the years, Dorothy knitted thousands of newborn caps for babies born at WLMH. In addition, she and Bill delivered "Meals on Wheels" around Grimsby for years. A "Coronation Street" fan since its inception, Dorothy went on several "Corrie" tours meeting the actors and exploring England, Scotland, and Wales. Dorothy loved being a grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was thrilled to become a great-grandmother and loved spending time with her family in Ontario, New Brunswick, and Manitoba. The family would like to thank the staff of the OBS Ward at WLMH for their kindness, care, and comfort during her stay. Cremation has taken place and celebration of her life will take place at STONEHOUSE-WHITCOMB FUNERAL HOME, 11 Mountain Street, GRIMSBY (905-945-2755) on Monday, May 9, 2022, from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to West Lincoln Memorial Hospital www.wlmhfoundation.ca/ would be appreciated.
