Doug DONALDSON Obituary

DONALDSON, Doug With his loving and devoted wife Jan and her sister Jackie by his side on Saturday, December 2, 2017, Doug Donaldson passed away at the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Grimsby in his 69th year after a strong fight against cancer. Loving husband of Janice Travers for 18 years. Survived by his daughter Rori McCaw, and special person in his heart Robbie, also his step-children Jeffery Thompson, and Sherri Hilton (Rodney). He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Stuart, Charlie and Brian; Cassie and Zachary (Gilmore); and Kyle (Thompson). Remembered fondly by his brother Jimmy and his wife Katherine, sister-in-law Jackie and her husband Norman Mailloux, brothers-in-law John Nott and Bob Struthers, and many friends and family. Predeceased by his mother Nellie Hagan (Bobbie) and father Robert Donaldson. Doug was a long-time employee of Wayside House for alcohol and substance addictions as Director and Counselor who constantly gave of himself to help others in any way he could. He also spent three years working as a part time butcher at Sobeys in Beamsville to make sure each cut of meat served was the very best! Heart-felt thank you to the Grimsby Hospital Staff and Palliative Care Team and to Dr. Kim Bender for the extra special care that she provided to both Doug and Jan. Special thank you to neighbours Judy and Mike Hutchinson for their constant support, to Bruce McAlpine at Smithville Pharmasave for his compassionate service, and to Jackie Mailloux (Jan's sister) who was Jan's rock throughout this difficult time and whose kindness, love and support meant the world to Jan. Visitation on Tuesday, December 5th beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Merritt Funeral Home , 287 Station Street, Smithville, where the Service will be held at 1 p.m. followed by a reception at the Smithville Train Station. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to Pets Alive Niagara in Doug's name. Doug will be remembered for his quirky sense of humour and for making a difference in so many peoples lives. merritt-fh.com
