Douglas Lapp Obituary

1957 - 2021
With great sadness, the family announces Doug's peaceful passing at the Carpenter Hospice, Burlington, on May 27, 2021. Doug bravely and courageously, battled kidney cancer for eight years.
Doug will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Janet Walsh (nee Vella) of 25 years. Proud father of Sean and Corey Lapp (Stefania) and Melanie Walsh (Aidan). Doug was also a blessed Papa to Nathan Lapp, and his sibling, due in November. Cherished son of Shirley Lapp and the late Robert Lapp (2016). Much loved brother to Christine Gresko-Kurz (Jan) and Cynthia Khan (Glen). Cool uncle of Derek Gresko (Amy) and Lindsay Pizarro (Mau). Great-uncle to Savannah, Teo, Zoe, and Milo. Predeceased by his mother-in-law, Doris Vella (2017).
Doug will be fondly remembered by Gary Schoeneberg, his best friend since childhood, along with friends and cousins, Josie and Tom Kelly, and Paul and Sue Irwin. He will also be lovingly remembered and missed by his many in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, co-workers, and neighbours.
An avid, passionate, and creative photographer, Doug recently won an international award for his audiovisual presentation sponsored by the Burlington Latow Photography Guild. He was also awarded first place in a Hamilton Spectator Photography competition amongst more than 2000 entries. Doug captured countless memories on camera for those he loved. His family and friends will forever cherish these photos.
Doug worked at CCL Label for 37 years as a respected Team Leader and will be missed by his many colleagues.
The family especially wishes to recognize and thank the staff at The Carpenter Hospice for their skilled and compassionate care. A special thanks to Joyce, Andy, Mike and Jo-Anne, who contributed to helping make Doug's final days at home comfortable. As well, a thank you to Sharon, Glen, family, friends and co-workers for your delicious meals, and many kind gestures. We are forever grateful.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Carpenter Hospice, Burlington, would be greatly appreciated by the family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

"Photography saved my life by opening my eyes to the beauty that surrounds me each and every day. Life looks much richer from behind the lens."

Salt of the Earth, that’s how I would describe Doug. I’ve known Doug since I was 17 years old. I was lucky enough to meet up again at a reunion in Stoney Creek. That boy I knew all those years ago hadn’t changed, still reliable, trustworthy, and straightforward. His photography was and is so inspiring to me. Looking through the lens of a friend can remind us how beautiful the world can be if we only take the time to slow down and look. What a wonderful body of photos he has left for his family and all to view and remember just how talented Doug was and the memories behind each photo. As time passes, I hope his family and friends find peace and joy in their memories

My condolences to Janet and the Lapp family. I knew Doug and Janet from CCL where I was part of the equipment division. I remember Doug taking photos. Doug made a fun video with co-worker Neil about a rush label order and included a few clips of our division. May your memories give you comfort, Marg Macdonald

To the Lapp Family:
I was sad to read of Doug's passing as I read the Spec.
Back in 2018 I attend the Men's group who were dealing with cancer. I too had a form of cancer. While sitting at the table waiting for the sign in sheet to come to me. I kept looking at the person sitting across from me. When the sign sheet came to me and to my surprise it was Doug Lapp. Just then Doug said and pointed to me,"You are Allan Freckleton," and I said "Hi Doug its been along time.
Doug told the guys we started school together and did not live to far from each other, plus he said we were some how related ( Ask Doug's mom she will know) It was hard to believe that both Doug and I had cancer.
I think the last time we saw each other was at high school reunion so many years ago. Doug was with his good friend Gary who I also remembered and went to school with.
It's was so nice to read Gary was with Doug during his hard journey that is true friendship.

It was interesting Doug's interest in photos and camera, as it reminded me of Mr. Lapps business at Main and Gage. Where do the years go.

May prayers are with you all.
Sincerely
Allan J. Freckleton Hamilton ON.
