Flora FORMOSI Obituary

December 8, 1919-January 3, 2021 Passed away peacefully in her 102nd year. Flora was born in her quaint little fishing town of Porto San Giorgio, located on the shores of the Adriatic Sea, which she fondly remembered farming with her Mama, in the Marche region of Italy. Her family's fruit market by her nephew and his wife. After seeing a picture of her, Umberto (1905-1986), also a Porto San Giorgio native, started writing his 18 year old bride to be, from Canada, until he was able to travel to Italy & meet her in December, 1938. Following their marriage in January, 1939, they honey-mooned in Rome before taking a ship & then a train into Liuna Station, Hamilton, where she resided for the rest of her life. Despite much adversity faced through starting a new life during a war, in a country where they didn't speak the language & were viewed as the enemy, they worked hard to build a good life together. Throughout her lifetime, she was most proud of her two children: Retired Justice of the Peace, His Worship, Vincent M. Formosi (il Primo) and the Most Reverend Monsignor Roger W. Formosi (1942- 2015) of the Great and Glorious Diocease of Hamilton, both of whom she loved very much. She was also fiercely proud of her three grandchildren Jodi, Vincent and Jaci, about whom she would brag to anyone willing to listen. Outside of her family, Flora also took great pride in her many close friendships within Hamilton's Catholic & Italian Comm-unities. She was a staple at Saint Anthony of Padua Church, serving various roles from Devout Parishioner, leading the St. Anthony's Procession, Volunteer Cook/Organizer of countless Church Fundraisers, Honored Lifetime member of the Catholic Women's League, & Founding Member/ President of St. Anthony's Altar Society. She was also the proud receipient of "The Formosi Cup", a commemorative gift of a Pasta Strainer from her L'Arche family for whom she loved to cook pasta. She cherished going to church & enjoying time with friends, family as well as travelling to Europe, the Holy Land, the Caribbean, Las Vegas & much more. She never missed a party & had a childlike love of life that was evident until the very end. The family would like to thank all of the people who have shown love and support to Flora. Many outstanding caregivers from Aberdeen Gardens & Bayshore were instrumental in her care. Some of whom she formed close bonds with. Thank you to Dr. Alton's unwavering commit-ment to her care. To Rita from the LHIN, whose compassion & advocacy were unlike any other. To Ross & Rob of Blueline, thank you for making sure she never missed church, an appointment or celebration. To the House Family & her St. Anthony's family, including Father Cucchi, Rocco, Maria & so many others, thank you for always surrounding her with love & support. She will be dearly missed by many in both Canada and Italy. Due to the Pandemic, Internment has taken place at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, & a funeral service will take place at a later date. The Formosi Family asks that anyone wishing to commemorate Flora's life & passing please make a donation, in her name, to St. Anthony of Padua Church, 165 Prospect St N, Hamilton, ON L8L 6X8.

Knowing Mrs. Formosi was a pleasure, honour and blessing. Precious and treasured memories of many family commemorations. She was the personification of God’s love. Her zest and joy for life was contagious and sense of humour very healing. Her dedication, commitment and loyalty to her church family, her family, her friends and community was admirable and highly respected. She left a legacy of love, respect, integrity, justice and service which continues through her son, grandchildren and all those lives she touched. I wish you farewell in your journey to eternity, my cara signora (dear lady). You will never be forgotten. The memories of your loving, generous spirit and acts of kindness are engraved in my heart for eternity. Rest in Peace Mrs. Formosi. With love, respect, gratitude and appreciation. My sincerest condolences, Mr. Formosi, Mrs. Formosi (Pat), Jodi and Jorge, Vincent, Jaci and Victor. Love you, Rosemary Baptista (Rose)

Vince & Family
Our mothers were THE BEST! The Formosi's and The Mazza's were blessed to be born in our special neighborhood, play and learn from our parents, our siblings and from one another as we grew up, and now have special Guardian Angels to keep an eye on us and who, I'm confident, are up in heaven enjoying each other’s company once again. So many good memories. And I especially remember your mother's wonderful laugh and positive outlook. The two Floras are laughing as we speak!

Mr. & Mrs. Formosi were neighbours of ours for many years. Such a lovely and caring couple. Mrs. Formosi was a beautiful person who was always helping out anyone in need. With her sense of humour she could put a smile on anyone's face. She was a wonderful cook and baker and she delighted in making Italian treats for my children and the other children in the neighbourhood. It was a pleasure knowing her and Mr. Formosi. May God bless her in her eternal life.
