Florence WESTON Obituary

WESTON, Florence Viola, RN (nee Burger) Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Cedarwood Village Simcoe, in her 96th year. Predeceased by her parents Elmer and Hattie (nee Dickinson) Burger, her loving husband James Weston (1998), her brother Russell (2008) and sister-in-law Mary (2010) Burger, her nephew (2017)William J. Burger (Ruth), great niece(2018) Melissa S. Howse (Matt). She is survived by her niece Mrs. William (Helen) Scott, Lethbridge Alta, nephews Warren R. (Marlene) Burger, Hagersville ON, Peter M. Burger, London ON. as well as several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Raised on the family farm (Norfolk County). she went on to graduate from the Hamilton General Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. She worked at the Tuberculosis Sanatorium in Hamilton, studied Missions and Christian Education at Crown College in Minnesota, studied Advanced Practical Obstetrics at the university with practical experience at High Prairie, Alberta. She also studied Tropical Medicine in Loma Linda, California, USA. Returning to Hamilton, she joined the medical department at Stelco Hamilton Works in 1954. She served for 35 years as an Occupational Health Nurse until her retirement. Florence was also involved with the formation of the Ontario Occupational Health Nurses Association. Raised by Christian parents, she remained steadfast in her faith and love for her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Uncle Jim and Aunt Flossie raised Scotch Collies, then Chinchillas, were active in the Ancaster Seniors Centre and members of the Dahlia/Chrysanthemum Society. They loved to entertain family, friends, neighbours and in their retirement spent winters in Mexico. She was fiercely independent, had a shrewd business mind and always cherished the times at family celebrations and reunions. Florence's family sincerely thanks the nurses, PSWs and staff at Cedarwood Village for her excellent care. Special thanks to Florence's dearest friend Jan (Bill/Ian) for your kind thoughtful and loving friendship that always lifted her spirits. Due to restrictions there will be no visitations, service and in keeping with Florence's wishes, cremation has taken place. Interment will be in the White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Arrangements entrusted to COOPER FUNERAL HOME, Jarvis (519-587-4414). In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cultus United Church or charity of your choice would be appreciated. She was also an amazing and dedicated Pioneer Girl leader. She positively influenced me greatly in that role. She and Margaret Christie were friends and together gave so much of themselves to us. Will see you again someday.
