Garnet Vernon Obituary

In Memory of
Garnet James Vernon
1944-2022

Died peacefully and with dignity at St. Peter's Hospital in Hamilton, on the morning of February 1, 2022. Garnet was born and raised in Manchester, Jamaica. He had an adventurous spirit that carried him into the Jamaica Defence Force for 6 years. After that, he, and his lovely wife Florette made the decision to embark on an adventure together in moving to Hamilton, Ontario to raise their family. When he wasn't working at Stelco, where he retired after over 30 years of service, you could find Garnet on the local Cricket field with his teammates, and later in life, on the Golf course with his friends. He was a proud member and volunteer with the Afro-Canadian Caribbean Association of Hamilton and the Jamaican Foundation. A devoted husband to Florette and loving father to Donna (Frank), Chris, and Deb (Tom). A very proud grandfather to Marley, Corinne, Natasia, MacKenzie, and Abbey. A caring brother, uncle, and friend to so many people who were very special to him.
The family would like to thank the dedicated healthcare professionals that provided Garnet with amazing care: Dr. McWhirter and staff at Juravinski Hospital, Dr. Gallinger and team at Princess Margaret Hospital and Dr. Taniguchi and the nursing staff at St. Peter's Hospital.
Garnet was a truly kind man that would lend his ear and hand to anyone in need. He will be greatly missed.
Garnet's family will receive guests for a memorial visitation at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Rd. E., Hamilton, ON. Due to safety protocols please register at www.baygardens.ca prior to attending.

Members of the Jamaica Foundation-Hamilton are Members of the Jamaica Foundation-Hamilton are mourning the loss of one of the founding members Garnet Vernon. For almost thirty (30) years Garnet was an active participant in our charitable fundraising, recreational and cultural endeavours. Coupled with his service with a smile approach to getting things done, his honesty, patience and respect for others, fostered congenial working relationships with suppliers such as LCBO, local Caribbean entrepreneurs and fellow members of The Foundation. In dealing with our loss, we are comforted by his dignity, faith and grace during his final days. Rest in Peace our good and faithful friend.

He was always always patient and kind to us as we all grew up in Manchester, Jamaica. He and my brother Webster (Chappy) were bosom buddies . I can still
remember them going out, wearing each other´s clothes and they had each other´s back. Chappy left this earth just five months before. I know he welcomed you warmly. Sleep in Peace my darling cousin .
