Garry COOPER Obituary

On November 18, 2022, Garry Thomas Cooper of Selkirk, ON passed away peacefully after a brief unexpected illness. He had just celebrated his 80th Birthday. Garry lived an unbelievably full life and had the tales to go along with it. He leaves behind his two sons, Tom and John, two daughters, Kim and Stacey, former wife of 52 years Marilyn, 8 grandchildren, Wilson, Brooke, Molly, Ella, Jack, Charlie, Cooper, Piper and his companion Pat who brought him joy, love and happiness. Garry was long time resident of Selkirk and the unofficial mayor of Lakeshore Road. He had the gift of gab, was a local historian and loved to tell jokes and play pranks. Garry was intelligent, creative, hardworking, giving and caring. Garry was the ultimate entrepreneur, founding Cooper Marine in 1975 and Cooper Bay Fisheries in 1984, creating an incredible legacy for his family. Famous for his Cooper Bay pig roasts, fish fry's and Sports Day parade floats, Garry was always the life of the party! Although he traveled all over the world, his favorite place was his home at the lake. He was known for his smoked fish, lucky stones and his love of the lake. He was a LEGEND and will be missed by many. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.

Gary will be missed by many. I enjoyed participating on a number of underwater searching adventures with Gary and was always amazed with his McGiver-like fixes and work arounds! I also enjoyed his smoked fish numerous times...few people could improve on that. I will miss Gary very much. My thoughts and prayers are with his entire family. Please accept my condolences. Uncle Gary was exactly that a LEGEND. I have fond memories of Uncle Gary fire walking, eating smoked fish, doing mud masks with Kimmy in the fish pond, sports day, days out on the fishing boats. Days at Uncle Gary´s we´re always an adventure. He was unique, hilarious, adventurous and I loved being around him and the fam. He will be missed.

Condolences to the family on the passing of Garry. I remember all the pranks he played on my parents but the best one was that frozen skunk in their bed. RIP Garry

Sending our heartfelt condolences for such a big loss to the Cooper family, all of Selkirk and beyond. Gary is part of our memories growing up, inviting us to dress up for parade floats, eating perch, swimming in his pond, taking his fishing boat to Pottahawk, and so much more. Thank you for always having an open door, a warm welcome and a love of your family that we all love to this day even if we don't see each other often. Hugs to all of you and please keep us posted on the details so we can pay our respects. Xox. -shauna

I've known Gary all my life. He was always a great person to talk to. Always had a great story to tell. Or comical idea to share. Very talented fabricator. He'll be truely missed.

Rest in Peace My Friend
Heartbreaking. He was the best friend and neighbour ever. We will miss him dearly. To know him was to love him. He was so easy to love. Such a happy, creative, active, social butterfly! My deepest sympathy to his family. My thoughts and prayers are with Pat who gave him a very wonderful year, not knowing it would be his last. Heaven has gained a very special Angel.
