Gary MUNGER Obituary

On March 4, 2022, the world lost a true character. Gary Munger died at Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton following complications from lung cancer, leaving behind his beloved children Brent (Kirsten) Munger of Guelph and Stephanie (Nick) Munger of Hamilton, grandchildren Hanna and Finn Munger, sister, Linda Beattie of Waterdown and several nieces and nephews, as well as his estranged wife, Valerie Hill of Kitchener. He is predeceased by his parents, Gustave and Carol Munger as well as older sisters, Sylvia, Arlene, Margaret and his uncle, Robert Bachelder.

Gary was born in La Tuque, Quebec but moved to Milton with his family in his teenage years. He grew up to become an auto body mechanic and later an entrepreneur.

Gary connected at a meaningful level with everyone he met and never judged. He was unfailingly supportive of his kids and brimming with bad Dad jokes. He was a notorious story-teller, often leaving people wondering if they were on the receiving end of a tall tale.

His sense of humour and positive attitude endeared him to neighbours, his customers at NAPA Auto Parts in Waterdown, and at the end of his life, hospital staff.

A celebration of life will be held in the spring. Memorial donations can be made to the Juravinski Cancer Centre Foundation.

I worked with Gary at NAPA and later as a customer,. Gary and I always chatted and kibitzed whenever I went to NAPA and were buddies. I knew we had cancer but did not know he had been hospitalized and only learned of his passing today. See you on the other side. Tim Haist
