19-March-1931 to 11-May-2022
After coping with Alzheimer's for the last six years, George Alaister Ronald Prentice passed away peacefully on May 11, 2022, at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, ON at age 91 with family at his side. Loving husband of the late Andrea Prentice (nee Wilson), devoted father of Deborah Milner, Graham Prentice (Dawn Lundy), Mary Ellen Prentice (Mike Bittman), and Marjorie Prentice (Ron Finnigan), loving grandfather to Elizabeth Longo (Nick), Victoria Milner, Kristin and Melanie Prentice, and Anna and Kieran Finnigan, proud great-grandfather to Parker and Everleigh Longo, and cherished brother to John (Jack) Prentice, and the late Barbara Dennis. Ron was born on March 19, 1931, in Montreal to George and Ellen (Brown) and grew up in Lachine, QC. He attended McGill University where he met Andrea and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1955. They were married on May 17, 1958, and, moved to St. Bruno to raise a family. The family moved to Burlington in May 1969. Ron ran his own business, Prentice Chemical Company, in Hamilton where he provided pool chemicals and industrial supplies for 30 years until he retired in 2000. He was an avid bowler, and a golfer since his teens. He loved playing in tournaments and earned several trophies for his prowess. His last was in 2005 after shooting a 79 for the Burlington Seniors Golf event at Cambridge Golf Club. Ron liked to read and had a fabulous memory prior to his illness, always a source for help with math, physics, or any other questions. We will miss his conversations. A memorial celebration of Ron's life will take place at Hearthstone by the Lake, 100 Burloak Drive, Burlington, on June 5, 2022, from 1-4 p.m. in the Pig and Whistle room. He has been cremated and will be interred in Andrea's grave at Burlington Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, donations in Ron's honour to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada would be sincerely appreciated.
