Gino DICLAUDIO Obituary

Peacefully at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by his family, and with great sadness we announce the passing of Gino DiClaudio on Monday, September 6, 2021, at the age of 96. He is now reunited with his childhood sweetheart, his beloved wife Carolina. Loved father and father-in-law to Elizabeth and Ralph Musitano, Anna and Sam Diliberto and Mary and Elio (Al) Rocca. Gino was very proud of all his grandchildren and was a loved Nonno to Patrick (Almira), Anita (Joe), Michael (Chiara), David (Kristen), Eric (Cassandra) and Carolyn (David). Loving Bisnonno of Lejla, James, Julia, Mikayla, Aria, Francesco and Logan. Predeceased by his parents Eusanio and Bettina DiClaudio and parents-in-law Pasquale and Anina DiLuca. Loving brother to the late Eugenio DiClaudio (Mirella), Maria Merlini (late Mario), Guerino DiClaudio (late Concettina), and Benito DiClaudio (Anna). Loving brother-in-law to the late Francesco and the late Concetta DiLuca, the late Vincenzo and the late Jennie DiLuca, the late Maria and the late Enrico Geloso, the late Santina DiLuca, Tina and the late Pietro Piccoli, and Lina and the late Gabriele DiLuca. Loving uncle and will be missed by many nephews and nieces both in Canada and Italy. He will also be dearly missed by all his neighbours and friends in his apartment building where he lived for 30 years. Gino was born in Castelli Teramo, and immigrated to Canada with his loving wife in 1953 in order to give his children a better life. He was a hard-working and retired employee of Dofasco. Gino immensely enjoyed playing the accordion, especially at family gatherings and functions, playing bocce and cards at the club, mall walking and socializing with his many friends at Eastgate Square. Gino will be deeply missed and will remain in our hearts forever. Now he can serenade all the angels in heaven with his accordion. Family would like to thank the LHIN Hamilton, PSWs from CBI and Bayshore and to nurses Cassandra and Alex for their continued care of our father. Visitation will be held at Friscolanti Funeral Chapel, 43 Barton Street East, on Friday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be offered at Incarnation of Our Blessed Lord Parish, 400 Potruff Rd. North (corner of Barton St. and Nash Rd.) on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. There are capacity restrictions and guests must wear a face covering and socially distance. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations in Gino's memory to St. Peter's Hospital Palliative Care.

This a a photo of Gino and my grandfather, Valeriano (age75) in 1964. Valeriano was so happy to drive to Hamilton from Pennsylvania to visit Gino, his nephew, and meet his family. A wonderful reunion! Now they meet again but in heaven.

Gino was my upstairs neighbour for the last eighteen years. Early on I enjoyed listening to him playing the accordion, which became less over time. In early 2020 I took a photo with him in the elevator, which I posted on Facebook to show my friends. He was always pleasant and when I asked him about his key to longevity, he said: don't smoke, eat well, stsy active, and have an occasional shot of cognac. A great gentleman. Rest In Peace

Mary, Al and family,

I would like to extend my deepest condolences for the loss of your father. I always admired Gino for his good character and his extraordinary talent with the 'organetto'. The music that he played was the life of the party and gave our children a glimpse of the past. He will be missed by all who knew him.
