It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Giuseppe (Joe) LaPorta on February 24, 2022, in his 89th year. Beloved husband of the late Elia and proud father of John (Wendy), Mario (Paula) and Dino (Diana). Loving Nonno of Jason, Danielle, Adam, Luca and Madelyn. Joe was a dear and beloved brother and brother-in-law to Anna (late Alfonso) Dalli Cardillo, the late Rosa and Liborio Mule, the late Margherita and Leandro Paniccia and the late Teresa and Renzo Centanni. Joe will be sadly missed by his dear companion, Dorothy, and his many nieces and nephews.
Joe was born in Montaperto, Italy, where, at a young age, he worked the family farm after his father's passing. He later moved to Belgium to work in the coal mines before immigrating to Canada at the age of 23 to lay the foundation for a new life for his family.
Having retired from Stelco after 30 plus years of dedicated service, Joe maintained an active lifestyle. He enjoyed working in his garden, vacationing in Cuba, playing bocce at the Trieste Bocce club, dancing, cooking, playing cards and going for walks. He will always remain the Scopa champion of our family. Joe will be remembered for his friendly smile and sense of humour.
Heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Joseph's Hospital for their professionalism, care and kindness to our father.
