KIMMINS, Gordon After a long life, well-lived it is with sadness we announce the passing of Gordon Kimmins on August 23, 2017 in his 94th year. The truth is we have been missing him for quite a while, as he was fogged by his illness. We were grateful for the moments when the fog lifted and saddened by its increasing embrace. Beloved wife of Eleanor (Woods) for almost 70 years, father of Eric (Krystyna), Norma (John Baxter), Karen (Earl Withers) and Janet (deceased). He is survived by 6 grandchildren, Erica, Jonathan, Colin, Tristan, Keith and Bryan, his sister, Ruth Somerville and many nieces and nephews. Gordon was born in Strathroy, ON, December 2, 1923, son of Major and Mrs. Charles Kimmins of the Salvation Army. He spent his early days in Fredericton, NB and Charlottetown, PEI, returning to Ontario as a teenager. At 19, Gordon enlisted with the 48th Highlanders and saw action in Italy attacking the Hitler Line and at Monte Cassino. Upon returning to Canada he met Eleanor, they married and settled in Hamilton. Working for more than 42 years in the life insurance field, he earned his CLU and Investment Fund degree, spending most of his career with Mutual Life. A mason for more than 5 decades, he served as the Master of the Lodge of Strict Observance in 1977. Gordon was a choir member, soloist and elder with MacNab Street Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and his love of music endured with the Geritol Follies choir where he sang for 17 years. Gordon and Eleanor were avid lawn bowlers (Roselawn), bridge players and enjoyed trips across Canada, the U.S., Europe and the Middle East. Many thanks to the staff and residents of Kingsberry Retirement Home and St. Peter's at Chedoke who were so kind, patient and supportive of Gordon and his family. A private interment will be held prior to friends and family being received at Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 947 Rymal Road East, Hamilton for visitation on Sunday, August 27th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Memorial service at Bay Gardens on Monday, August 28th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations to MacNab Street Presbyterian Church, Autism Ontario or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
