Harold Kowalchuk Obituary

1941 - 2022

It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Harold, loving and devoted husband of 60 years to Anne (nee MacPhee), on February 27, 2022, at the age of 81, in Hamilton, Ontario. In recent years Harold has been a marvel and role model of care toward Anne, much to the awe and deep appreciation of his children Michael, Lisa, and Steven.
He will be dearly missed by them, by his sisters Doris ("Auntie Dodie") and Ann (Don), and by his extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws, as well as friends, in Ontario and on the east coast.
Despite having to strike out on his own at age of 15 after the passing of his cherished grandfather "Micky", who was a father figure to him, Harold made friends easily and was liked by all who met him. He was proud of his Cape Breton upbringing and east coast roots. Employed for most of his work life as a skilled crane operator (he was a member for many years of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 793), Harold also had stints as a hotel owner-manager ("The Boot" in Blyth, Ontario) in the 1970s, and a big rig trucker in the 1980s and 90s. A cancer survivor, he impressed all of us with his recently acquired proficiency in digital communication, as well as in baking, the products of which he generously gave away. He was also an avid reader of politics, current events, and history.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date; please contact the family for details. Donations in Harold's name can be made to the Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Society.
