Harry BROWN Obituary
October 20, 1929 - April 18, 2023
Harry Brown passed away peacefully, surrounded by his devoted family, on April 18, 2023, in his 94th year. He is predeceased by his loving wife Marion, his soulmate with whom he shared 70 wonderful years. He is lovingly remembered by his children Debra (Raymond), Virginia, Sandra, Jeffrey (Melissa), Linda (Ted), and Greg; his beloved grandchildren: Amanda, Allison, Alex, Aimee, Steven, Katie, Jessica, Kelly, Natalie, Stephanie, Preston, Michelle, Becky, Matt, Woods, Foster and Lilly; and six great-grandchildren: Areyana, Adelyn, Piper, Liam, Hudson and Oaklyn. He is survived by his sister Marion Vanschaik, and predeceased by his brother Gordon, his sister Edith, and his parents Edgar and Ivy Brown, his grandchildren Sarah and Rachel, and his great-granddaughter Annabella. He will be sadly missed by his many relatives and beloved friends.
Harry worked at Stelco for 34 years. He and Marion were longtime members of The Historical Automobile Society of Canada, and they made many wonderful friends. Together, they planned and took many trips throughout Canada and the U.S. in their antique vehicles. Harry restored vintage automobiles and was well-known for the quality and precision of his work. He was creative and could fix and build anything. He made many heirloom pieces of furniture and created countless items for his children and grandchildren. He had many interests: aviation, fishing, skiing, camping, and he and Marion travelled the world. But the real priority in his life was his family. He was a true family man whose hours were devoted to the happiness and welfare of those he loved. The house they built together in Hannon shortly after their marriage in 1952 was filled with unconditional love, support, humour and adventure, the site of countless "Brown Family Love-Ins". He was our rock and guide, our fearless leader, a man we were proud to call our own. Never was he more courageous than in his battle with cancer, which he tackled with perseverance and willpower. He always set the bar high in his endeavours and was a shining example of what it takes to be a good man, a family man. He had the respect of his colleagues, the admiration of his peers, and the love of his family and friends. He was a wonderful example of a life lived well.
The family is forever grateful for the care Harry received from the Palliative Support Team, the VON, and the care workers who treated him with such dignity and love.
A private family service will take place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Juravinski Cancer Centre.
A heartfelt thank you to his granddaughter Allie, who provided such tender, compassionate and loving care over the last few years of his life.
